Re: My $.2 on MT canoes
They do make some beautiful boats. Great website, too. I wonder if they'll open a satellite office in Alabama any time soon?

Re: Update on Mohawk
So glad to hear you guys are still alive. Several years ago, I drove to your Chattanooga factory and bought my Solo 13. It's been the best boat and has made me a steadfast Mohawk fan. Thanks for the update. Please continue to post your progress.

I've been looking at your boats and website. Outstanding! You have developed some great looking canoes and your photo gallery is amazing. If I ever find myself in Missoula Montana, I'll be sure to check you guys out.

Re: Return of the Blackfly Ion....
This boat has always appealed to me. My canoes always seem gargantuan compared to my friend's kayaks. It'd be cool to have a short boat but still single blade and kneel.

Re: Blackfly Canoes - Where should we go in 2017?
I would say Alabama but all of our creeks are bone dry! But if you start building wheels into your boat hulls, we may be able to work something out.

Re: Homemade OC1
(continued) #4. Sheet foam comes in 8' sheets so I added foam to each end (for extra length and aesthetics) and shaped it with a rasp. Some may ask, "How do you make it perfectly symmetrical?" I'm not sure. I marked where I wanted the curves to stop with a marker, shaped it with the rasp, then felt ...

Re: Homemade OC1
Steps to building a composite foam core boat: #1. Spend hours thinking about how you want the finished product to look. Build it in your mind several times and try to anticipate problems. Helpful hint: Nod your head occasionally and mutter "uh huh" so that your wife thinks your paying attention. #2....

Re: Homemade OC1
Thanks! Fiberglass 6oz ($52 on Ebay for 50'), Epoxy resin ($57 on Ebay), sheet foam ($30 Home Depot). Hatches, webbing, and foam pad brought the total close to $200. I built my first OC1 out of Kevlar for around $600. Sadly, I made a few errors that caused it to be flimsy with odd stability. It was ...

Homemade OC1
I took my latest creation out for a test paddle yesterday afternoon. It seems like all the cool kids are paddling short boats so I built it 8'7" long and 30" wide. As you can see, it has a ton of tumblehome and rocker. Instead of airbags, both ends are watertight compartments with hinged hatches. It...

Re: Company Name?
Thank you, JKaz. You pointed me in the right direction. Apparently, this is very doable (application > fee > bingo!) However, it looks like something an attorney would need to look over (lots of ominous legal jargon on the application). I may consider this in the future but for now I might have some...

Company Name?
I've been building a few canoes in my basement. It's just a hobby and I don't plan on going in the canoe business. However, I want to have decals made with a company name and model to make them look more professional. As far as I know, my company name is not taken. If I wanted to legally secure my n...

Homemade OC1, Stability Issues
I built my first composite OC1 with mixed results. It was my own design and several improvements could be made. Mistake #1: Although the chines are rounded, the sides are completely vertical. Mistake #2: No tumblehome. Even at 28", the paddle reach is awkward and cross stroke are almost impossible. ...
