The boat is asymetrical. The inside edge of the backrest should be 11" behind center. I used to outfit boats for Mikey.

Ocoee pedestal
John: I have outfitted quite a few. I usually place the spine of the paddler 7 inches behind the center (Mikey gave me the dimension) . Thats usually just the edge of the backrest of the pedestal. That puts the boat neutral.

Millbrook Rival
I have had one for 2-3 years and love it, even if I do break it once and awhile. Very light and stiff you will never wnat royalex again.
