Re: Question
Thanks for the info, but I'm really more concerned with the kneeling part and constant pressure on the knee. It's been over a year since mine was replaced and I have very good range of motion, but it still feels "odd" when kneeling. I padded open boats for well over twenty years before switching to ...

Question
Any boaters out there ever had a total knee replacement? If so, any issues getting back in the boat?

Re: Interesting Question from a Long Time Paddling Friend
I've gone from 40 to 50 days a year on the water to 12 or 15 days a year on easy stuff up to class II This may be natural. I was going at least 30 days a year, most with the same buddy. When he contacted cancer and passed away I found myself out of the loop. The last couple of years I've only paddl...

Re: Interesting Question from a Long Time Paddling Friend
Chuck, I also started in the 80s, paddling open boats for close to 20 years. Then I got busy with a move and new house. Then I gained a BUNCH of weight and before I knew it, it was eight years since my last time in a boat. When the Whitewater center was built in Charlotte, NC, my interest was rekind...

Re: Question for Millbrook Owners in the SE
Wendy,
I'd be paddling mostly Upper Green, FB9, Nolichucky, Nanty, Toe Gorge and Upper Dan @ Kibbler Valley. I won't even ask about Wilson.

Re: Question for Millbrook Owners in the SE
Upper Green is one I had in mind. I'm 66 and even my big old Jackson creeker kills me going up the hill.

Re: Question for Millbrook Owners in the SE
Guess I could always bounce down rocks in the buttboat. The Millbrooks should be okay on less creaky runs, shouldn't they?

Question for Millbrook Owners in the SE
I know skill level has a lot to do with it, but are they durable enough to handle most Western North Carolina rivers. Nothing above, say, Wilson Creek or Big Laurel? Or even low water class 2/3 runs?

Re: Question for Blackfly Option Owners
Thanks. I'm about an hour from Wilson, but I doubt if it's going to be -3. But I'd like to talk to you about the boats sometime. Like I said, it's been well over 10 years since I was in an OC. While I've really enjoyed butt boating, I'd really like to see if my knees would take it. They may not, but...

Where can I demo a Blackfly in North Carolina?
I'm less than two hours east of Asheville, so I'm hoping there's something in the vicinity.

Re: Question for Blackfly Option Owners
Canoeman61, I'd read your article before and had planned on contacting you via BT or GDI but since you posted here, I'll ask. Why the Octane over the Option, especially at your weight? As for me, I've never paddled a planing hull canoe. I paddled OC's for 20 years and then switched to butt boat in '...

Question for Blackfly Option Owners
Are any of you over the recommended weight? If so, how's it working out? I'm 225 and trying to decide between an Option and Octane.
