Re: PFD types and rolling

Bulk in the front of a PFD can make it hard to roll both kayaks and canoes, especially for those of us with extra bulk to start with. Galasport (Sandiline) makes some low profile PFD's. A C boating friend got one and its made a big difference in his rolling ability.

Re: ALF on Saturday

There may be some info on the GDI facebook page. There is a bunch staying at the Cherohala Mountain Trails Campground. Other than that, the forecast in nice for Saturday so there will be people on anything that's running.

Too bad you're in the wrong Augusta ;). I could have helped if you were in Augusta Ga. Unless you have a heated work space it may still be a bit early for that job.

Re: L'edge vs. Blackfly Octane 85

Have you considered a C-boat? You're small enough to fit in one with reasonable comfort and it would be easier to handle on and off the water.

Re: Paddle alone?

A solo trip is a different experience and one that I enjoy occasionally. Its easier to focus on the river and your own paddling and the solitudde can be nice for a change. I would not choose to paddle a river at the top of my ability alone, but I don't think that solo paddling a run well within ones...

Re: How tight are you in your boat

I rig my outfitting so that when pushing hard on on the toe pegs I'm locked in tight. When relaxed there's a little slack.

Re: Mamba 8.5 as C1

I paddled the Mamba 8.5 as a kayak and agree with the above poster about the odd volume distribution, though I generally liked it and didn't really have a problem getting stern squirted. I have a friend who has converted just about every likely kayak into a C1 and he has done the Mamba and Nomad. He...

During my pain rotation in 1990, as an anesthesiolgy resident we looked into possible benefits from DMSO for our chronic pain patients but never found any good evidence that it was helpful. It is an excellent skin penetrating solvent and will carry whatever it dissolves through the skin, including t...

Re: Varnish/sealant for wooden t-grip?

I use marine polyurethane now. It dries faster than the spar varnish so you can get multiple coats on quicker. I haven't had a problem with blisters either.
