Am paddling a Zoom at the moment, but I am seriously considering this change. It is in the same class as the Aftershock and Spanish Fly, but is a bit of a hybrid. It could be equated to a creek C1 with an open deck. I also understand that due to the smaller cockpit than the afore mentioned boats, it...

My mate Loz is pretty megga in a C1 freestyle boat. He has a wheelboy. The feedback is that it is a cartwheel machine! However, it does not do the modern moves as well though.

Me, doing consistent wheels would be good!

Hi Geoff, A couple of thoughts: Try extending your paddle out from the side of the boat for the whole set up phase. This will mean you are not cramped and will give you more leverage. do this by projecting your T-Grip onto your forehead once you have switched to the back of the blade. An open canoe ...

What is the problem? Buy the Ocoee and get some good coaching. Then spend a little more time getting your balance (just time after all!).

Do not buy an outage............it would be an outrage!

Now Colin, The chapter in the BCU Handbook is well written (!!!!), but because of limited space rather short. Thrill of the paddle is pretty good though. Do not underestmate the Drill Time stuff; particularly the flat water foundation skills. These skills are the basis for good white water boating. ...

The rolls are the same.

It's the same as changing OC1's. The Ocoee for instance rolls more slowly than the Zoom. The outrage is quicker than the aftershock.

My jackson superstar C1 is a slower roll than my Esquif Zoom.

Get your technique right and the debate is academic.

You would do well to learn that a "hip snap" is nothng to do with a canoe roll!!! My appologies if you are a kayaker! I learned that if you write your name in your boat you may get it back if you get stuffed on a river in flood. I was also reminded that specialist white water open boating is still a...

Accept your boat is an open canoe. It is getting the technique right and practicing that gives you a good roll; not adaptations to the integrity of the open boat ethic. Rolling a Spanish Fly is much easier than many gunwale boats. Try getting in touch with a gunwale boater from the UK who can advise...

Turn the paddle upside down. Measure the shaft not the overall paddle because the blade will be immersed. The length should be from your crotch to somewhere around your forehead. The fine adjustment comes with experience and preference; so maybe go for an average.
