OC racers

Those are fun boats. On Saturday I was in a Cyclone (the big brother of the Twister at 15') and found it to be fast and an easy surfer. But if you really want the great OC boats look at http://www.millbrookboats.com/ . Kaz's designs are fast and maneuverable. They are asymetrical boats that LOVE a g...

Do not believe the BS!

Louie: Do not believe those guys. You are getting all this nice treatment because you have a Tareau AND you are offering to let others try it. That means we all want to be your friend. We will let you spell any way you want. You can say anything you want. We all want you to come to the Armada. We al...

Looong boats

Kaz- you ain't paddling no long boat, you're just paddling one of those stubby little thirteen foot boats. Gotta try those BIG boats, then you can have some fun! Yes, I am in love with my 15' long Prowler (designed and made my that short-boat paddling Kaz). It is great having a boat that excels for ...

Love the Whitesell

Nice to see the OCers responding here. Regarding Jim M's review- note that he probably has more river miles in an OC than 'bout anybody, especially on the tough stuff, so those are some great insights. I followed him down many rivers when we were both in Whitesell Pyranhas and that boy can paddle, a...

Why ski?

I get a free seasons pass to a small ski area because my wife is an instructor. I have been once all year, and spent the day on the beginner slopes with my 4 year old. Give me a paddle! My wife cannot believe that I paddle and she skis on the same day. I cannot believe she wants to ski when it is so...

Bored?

Jim- Are you not bored because of the boat (OC)? Or because of the rivers (you tend to hang around on some pretty wild rivers)? Re: Because let's face it, to the general public we are somewhat strange and outcast. Hey, we may be strange, (any group that has AB in it has to be a little strange) but i...

Technique

It is not the technique for you- for you to get there will jam up the gleno-humeral joint and then all the motion has to come from the scapula. So stick with YOUR technique.

hades, I wish I had some kind of technique to stick with.

Connecticut is flooded and I am going to call Mike.

AB

AB Loved the link to the Olympic videos. Note the difference in shoulder movement between Estanguet and Martikan. Martikan has more flexibility (if I recall correctly, I watched these a few days ago and do not have time to look now) and you see that in some of the moves. Estanguet's technique is dif...

Technique

Like I have said before- the best paddler on the river is the one who is having the most fun… and that is Kaz. When I am paddling with my son I am closing in on him on the fun part, but never on the boat speed or control. I agree with Bob- there is some kind of magic involved. I have to disagree wit...

Beer

Kaz:

You just like drinking beer.

Period.

Of course, you are always welcome to mine, especially right before a race.

Kevlar vs. ABS

Bill: Kaz does a great job with his composite layup. I have been paddling a Prowler for 2.5 years and it is taking a beating and holding up fine. In October my wife and I swiped a boulder (her fault- really) and we really pounded into it. We were amazed- a little crack in the outer layer of glass an...

Howler

The Howler is a great boat to consider- take a look at http://www.millbrookboats.com/ I have paddled a Royalex version with my son (now 10 years old) since he was an a couple of years old. It is 26" wide, comfortable, responsive and dry. It is stable with our combined weight of 270 pounds, but it fe...

Farmington

All is true except the part about the key- the back door that is a few steps from the river is NEVER locked. So if Alden is back in Connecticut for the holidays he should drop in to raid the fridge.

Rain this week means I am off to play on the river today.

Yeah, but...

Now what we really need is a new book on rivers and creeks in the northeast. Maybe even from a canoer's perspective. I sure wish someone would write one.
