Re: hip pads

I use hip pads in most of my boats EXCEPT for the L'edge. When paddling the L'edge my legs are locked in and as Longboatin described I want the movement for my hips. I have mini pads in the L'edge that I use for carrying the boat on my shoulder but those do not really contact my hips. In my other bo...

Re: 2014 Open Canoe Slalom Nationals & N. American Champions

Einar got it right- this was a GREAT race with lots of fun and very generous and gracious hosts. I am still on a high from it all... which is good because I have another 1,200 miles to drive to get home. Thanks to the wonderful Montana folks and it was great seeing the crowd of great boaters that ga...

Re: 2014 Open Canoe Slalom Nationals & N. American Champions

Glad to hear you are planning to have the rivers prime for us. I am still waiting for the ice to melt here so I really, really need to get a paddling fix. I am looking forward to trying some new rivers.

Re: oc boating after knee surgery...

I recommend starting with a conversation with your surgeon. There are several different techniques you can use to repair a torn ACL and some of them may leave you with a bump on the front of the knee that will reduce your tolerance to kneeling. My wife had this done about 6 years ago. The first orth...

Re: Canoe instruction... why do so few of us pay for it?

Great thread- I have enjoyed the discussion. I have always appreciated value in mentors on the river and I was fortunate to have some great ones along the way. There was a discussion thread about instruction vs. coaching and I recalled a great example of coaching. I have only been on the New River o...

Re: Jacques-Cartier and Penobscot rivers

Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I have not been on those rivers in almost 2 decades and this reminds me I need to make a trip in that direction.

Re: Boat of the Week - Perception Slasher

Sooo many memories, and some of them are good. The Slasher was my first C-1 and the transition from OC was not pretty. I picked one up when they came out and I was determined that a C-1 would lead to enlightenment and bigger things. I went from running a Whitesell Pyranha down things like the Gauley...

Re: The Drysuit Evolved - SwimLeft

Interesting concept. I agree with those who are apprehensive about a 2-piece suit, as I prefer a full dry-suit when running more difficult water.

Re: new video on shuttles

That is great- it reminded my of many adventures, some of which should never have been adventures, but our incompetence with keys and/or shuttles turned a routine trip into an adventure.
