Re: Shortening an H2O C1 Paddle

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm going to try Jim's method. This is a paddle for my wife to replace her current H2O that has lasted I don't know how many years without wearing down very much while I've probably gone through at least 4 paddles in that time. So it's worth the trouble to get it perf...

Shortening an H2O C1 Paddle

I have a 58" H2O paddle that I need to shorten to 57". I have a new grip to replace the old one thatI will destroy in the process. What I'm unsure of is the best way to remove leftover wood from the old grip left in the shaft. Any idea of the best procedure to drill out or otherwise remove this wood...

There was also the Prelude. It's now made by Esquif. For the specs, see: http://www.esquif.com/en/whitewater/prelude/

Re: Need hard plastic D-ring source

SCORE! I spent 1.5 hours searching on the web for these before posting and struck out. Jenda may be the world's last source of these. So thanks so much.

Need hard plastic D-ring source

Anyone know where to buy the gray hard-plastic narrow strip D-rings that you glue down with epoxy? They make great tie-downs in tripping canoes. I've been searching the web for them and striking out.

Unfortunately I'll be out fo the country that weekend, but I'm promoting the event and especially the canoe slalom in the Lower Columbia Canoe Club newsletter. Hope you get a crowd!

Re: Northwest Kanu Fest 2018

Good news for water levels at the Kanu Fest this year: The Washington state Department of Ecology, however, says this has been a good winter for that state’s mountain snowpack, which is 119 percent of normal.

Chris, thanks for another year of putting this together. I'm working on putting together a Portland contingent to come up again this year.

Re: Newbie from the North Woods

Ditto on carving any more out of the back--what you did was probably enough. Keep sitting in the canoe, feeling where there is pressure on your legs that is keeping you from sinking in all the way, and trimming the foam accordingly. Eventually you'll get there--a perfect custom fit.

Re: Option vs. maxim

Option is definitely more stable than a Maxim. The Option's width is a major factor in that. The Option also doesn't have as sharp of chines, so it's more forgiving when tilted the wrong way. It's also easier to paddle flat. You're much less likely to accidentally tilt it and carve off a surf wave o...

Re: Does anyone canoe in Colorado?

Hard to say what outfitting system is safer. Bulkheads are more convenient for fast in and out and when carved properly ensure a tight connection to the canoe. But, I think they're dangerous in the event of a bow pin. With water at your back pushing you forward, it would be hard to exit a bulkhead. ...

Re: Does anyone canoe in Colorado?

As for canoes, I'd suggest researching Blackfly, Silverbirch, and Esquif for models designed for your weight. All these companies make the popular polyethylene (kayak plastic) canoes many of us now use. Esquif also makes models using their new Royalex-replacement material T-Formex which I hear is ve...

Re: Does anyone canoe in Colorado?

For boat suggestions, what's your height and weight? I know several former kayakers who, having back problems, switched to canoes for the kneeling position. Of course I also know several canoeists who not being able to kneel comfortably anymore switched to kayaking. The switch from paddling with a s...
