The hubby tried his Bandit this week and likes it! He even perfected the first half of his roll on his maiden OC-1 voyage.
Yea! Big points for wifey.

Hi Wannabe- Nice to see another chick on the board. I just got back into OC-1 after a 20 yr hiatus and after months of research and advice gathering from this forum, have bought myself a Rival. It's fantastic! Plus it's made of R-lite so is very easy for me to load and unload alone from the top of m...

Well, for what it's worth, I purchsed the 60" Bandit for my 6'-3" hubby. It arrived today. Yes, half of you are shaking your heads and half are nodding. Thanks for everyone's help and discussion on the topic. I feel like I have 20 big brothers out there (well, little ones too). And speaking of which...

Re: paddle
Ms. weeMac, I guess you see a can of worms opened here. Thanks, it got kind'a dull after Ain'tLou... nevernind. Remember when mr. Weemac is doing 3/4 (or 2/5) he'll be kneeling, so a shorter paddle; cross draws et al, a shorter paddle, shoulder stress... speed/finesse..shorter. Uh oh. Translation a...

Wow. Thanks for all the imput everyone! I love this site. I think I'll go with the 60" and let him try this paddle for a while. He needs a spare too, so if he doesn't like this one, it can become his spare. Surprises are nice and if I chase him around the house with a measuring tape he might get the...

Favorite ways to size an OC-1 paddle
Well, I haven't yet found anything on this site about sizing paddles. Mitchell gives a very loose method (anyone over 6' is between a 60" and 63"). Another site spoke of adding together various measurements including the height of your "seat" (I'm picturing cane woven in a wooden frame here). This i...

Proud new owner of a bouncing baby Rival!!
I finally found one! Bought on EBay for $460 - brand new, never seen the water. And it's purple and made of R-lite. Good thing I have a king sized bed so there's room for my hubby too......
Thanks to all of you for all of your help and advice!!
Slante,
Weemac

Taos Box
Hey Tiggy, How was the ark? Taos Box is running now: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nm/nwis/uv/?site_no=08276500&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060 500CFS at Taos Junction, this time of year, is about the minimum flow needed. The most accurate flow for the Box would be the Taos Junction gauging station (link above...

Hi Dave, Your posting was very helpful - thanks! Looks like you are no stranger to long trips. Your Pukaskwa photos are amazing! Your portages look nearly as exciting as the river! Full dry suits, snow and bug hoods…. A combination I wasn’t aware existed. Do you guys have frost-proof skeeters up the...

True, true. How much do these fancy light batteries cost? How big are they? What is the voltage? I am imagining a car battery........ You said you had 50% charge left after 5 days. Sounds impressive. So while I'm remaining open minded about technology.... Has anyone tried a roll up solar panel to bo...
