Boat of the Week - Perception Gyra Max

Yes, BotW is back!

I know lots of us have owned a Gyra Max, even some "newer" paddlers here that picked one up cheap to try CBoating. I've never been a big fan of the boat, but admit that at the time it came out it was ground breaking (it IS high performance... compared to it's predecessor the Sage ...

Boat of the Week - Blackfly Option

TonyB made an excellent suggestion of adding some info on the Option generations to the "archive"... and I realized now was a good time to start back up the Boat of the Week, and hopefully get stories / images / and info on the now-in 4th generation mold Blackfly Option:

Boat of the Week - Drakkar Wheelboy / BigBoy

C1's have been "international" boats for almost as long as they've been around (look at the "copying" of race designs in the 60's... and the Hahn mold that was brought to the US, then modified, etc...). But in 2006 a boat designed in Germany, built in Poland, and a few of us in the US purchased... the ...

Boat of the Week - Mohawk Maxim

The Maxim has experienced some renewed interest the past few years; I recall paddling with Maxwell at one of the early North Branch Armadas... and proudly own one of the beafy sticks he built for a while too!

Boat of the Week - Hydra Duet

As there has been some recent discussion about this boat, I'll post it up this week.

For those of us that have paddled a nice glass slalom C2, the Duet is an absolute pig. BUT LOTS of fun has been had in these boats over the years, and with the number of them still going strong after all these years I ...

Boat of the Week - Dagger Aftershock

... have been a Quake...I hopped in to it quick on the Ottawa for variety (and out of my medium standard cut Acrobat...)).

Some of these "bath tubs" are still around, and have no doubt had an impact on some of today's designs.

Boat of the Week - Millbrook Amoeba

Since this is a short week I've picked a boat I know only a few have paddled, but I think more would purchase if you did - the Millbrook Amoeba. For those looking for a nice cruising boat that surfs, it's great. Fast too. I'd think ... only so much room!)

If you are one of the few that have paddled one ...

Boat of the Week - Perception Slasher

A Slasher was one of my first two boats. A friend of mine sold me his cascade... and gave me his slasher. He was not a fan of the boat to say the least. On paper it sounds good - a plastic slalom boat. And if you are the right weight, and don't mind a heavy boat, it IS a nice fast boat. But I know many of ...

Boat of the Week - Robson Finkenmeister

One of the few purpose-built creek boats, the Finkenmeister seems to have a "love it or hate it' personality. Some folks have described it as difficult to roll. Most say it needs to be paddled aggressively (not a boat to just sit and brace in). Then there is the outfitting...

I'm looking forward to ...

Boat of the Week - Dagger Caption

Of all the OC2's I see traded around, this and the ME seem to be two of the most popular (of "older" boats, that is).

I've never paddled one, but from the images I've seen of folks boating in them they are fun and capable....

Boat of the Week - Esquif Zoom

I let the Boat of the Week take a break for ALF and the holidays - it is BACK!

This week (or 10 days..)... the Esquif Zoom ... known as the "wooz" to some, beloved by others... I'm SURE folks have opinions and stories about this boat, so post them up!

Boat of the week experinece: Zoom

Paddled a loaner Zoom for the first time for 2 days in straight 3 technical water
First 30 minutes produced flips in quick succession, but then got on it, got ahead of the brace game.

It's true, no 2nd ... to like it.
I'm a 200lb male and I found the boat very dry, downstream and upstream. It tended to ...
