Re: Long Lost C-Boater wondering: what to paddle?

... you are near open water where you can paddle it easily.

I've not tried a Millbrook Wide Ride but it has always looked interesting. And Adam has always encouraged me to try an Amoeba which I may someday but not yet.

My Storm Chaser, Hornet and Magnet are all for sale, but you are a long way from me.

Re: Long Lost C-Boater wondering: what to paddle?

... the "C-Forum"...;). Nice to have you back with us!

If you are looking to paddle but not race I'd say you should definitely check out a Millbrook Amoeba - higher volume and fast. Kaz may have other molds kicking around... worth a call anyway. I'm pretty sure PS Composites still has a bunch of old ...

Re: Expedition C-1--Katana?

A few options depending on what you're looking for:
Millbrook Hornet (narrowed cascade; literally. Nice boat). Composite
Millbrook Amoeba (think high volume slalom boat; probably my favorite "big volume" boat). Composite
River Elf Storm Chaser (composite creek boat, could work as multi-day trip boat ...

Re: Under rated boats...

A picture of a Descender would be nice.

As for the Amoeba, I don't think very many were made. I only know of two, one in Glen Falls and the other in Concord NH. You could contact Millbrook boats and see if Kaz knows of any others, and he would know.

Re: Under rated boats...

... I got a foam roller and some edibles, so I think I'll be okay.

My experience being very limited, I can't weigh in on how underrated anything is. Being on a river is underrated. Any river.

I'd like to try other boats. How would I go about finding an Amoeba for a test drive? Looks like a good cruiser.

Under rated boats...

... picking up on the Storm Chaser these days.

But the boat the sticks out in my mind as a "great" boat that no one ever mentions is the Millbrook Amoeba. Front and side surfs far better than you'd expect, FAST, and responsive. You won't squirt it (too high volume), and as much as that is generally ...

"Adam, just loan me your Amoeba for a while and I'd be glad to do a comparison."
My latest race boat design is similar to the Amoeba (based on the same Estanguet race boat) except with lower stern volume and dimensioned legal for slalom. It's currently stored in Bryson City. I'll be going down there ...

Re: Hornet and Magnet comparisons

Adam, just loan me your Amoeba for a while and I'd be glad to do a comparison. :-)

I paddled the Hornet again last night - the speed is a bit intoxicating. I easily made a power move onto a wave using only cross forward strokes, where normally I have to switch hands to let me power onto that wave ...

Great review - thank you for taking the time to share!

Now I'm even more curious to hear what you'd think of an Amoeba;)

C-boat for 120 lb 11 year old to learn - which to pick

... with me in our Grokshark.

Top pick - a shortened Fanatic C1 that weighs <25 lbs. I cut the ends off where it looks sort of like the Millbrook Amoeba C1. This boat is light so he can easily move it, a fairly tough layup, and will respond well to his movements. He can easily carry it. It is pretty ...

Re: Kayak conversions—and catching up!

Great to have you back with us:)

If I were in your shoes I'd contact Kaz at Millbrook and see what he could build you an Amoeba for... stern pivots will be out, but comfy and fast just like you like. Surfs (front and side) great too.

Otherwise keep your eye out for a Frachella Viper... being ...

Re: Full cut Acrobat?

For a cruiser I'd stick with a Viper.

If you want pointy, fast, and staying on the surface get a used slalom boat, and if the tail annoys you shorten it.

For a really fun surface boat check out the Millbrook Amoeba if you have the $$.

Re: Tippecanoe

... are, a big reason for swedeform. Let the bow cut, and the stern lounge in the trailing turbulence.

Do you still try to keep the bow narrow on your open boat slalom designs? On which of your c-1 designs is the bow wide enough to be "in the way"? The L.N. Amoeba?

No right answers, just better ones.

Jim,

You (and anyone else) are welcome to drop by some time here in Queensbury (and check out the Storm Chaser, Magnet, Sith, Amoeba, etc...). Unfortunately I can't make the armada this year (commitment I can't get out of). I was really hoping to make it as my daughter was going to join me this year ...

Re: Big Momma Helen (Short) C-1 for sale

That looks very similar (but not identical) to the Millbrook Amoeba... which IMhO is a great boat.
