Re: Critical Mass K-1 to C-1, Hip-pads?
That all depends on your outfitting and your quick releases. To me, trying to get out of an upside-down c1 with hip pads causes my feet to get caught up between the hip pads and saddle. Remember that sometimes exits are no straight out but at an angle to the cockpit. My release system is such that I...

Re: Critical Mass K-1 to C-1, Hip-pads?
Smurf, I can see where moving anchor points back some would make a difference. I guess I'll just have to try it and see, but would moving anchor & straps back, also create more of an entrapment issue? This is my primary concern. The outfitting of the boat in the picture that Craig referred to in thi...

Re: Critical Mass K-1 to C-1, Hip-pads?
I'd suggest moving the top anchor points for the thigh straps to a point equal to or just slightly behind your hip socket. Moving the lower anchor point closer to the crotch helps but frees up the knees a bit. With hip pads you'll still come off the saddle in an upward direction.

Re: Critical Mass K-1 to C-1, Hip-pads?
The saddle is the guts from a Dagger Cascade. I have added a partial bulkhead & it has knee/thigh straps. My butt still comes up, some. I am tweaking outfitting some to help with that. Currently it does not have footbraces. I guess thats next. My main problem is lack of practiceX3!

Re: Critical Mass K-1 to C-1, Hip-pads?
What issues are you having with your roll and what kind of outfitting are you using? If your butt is lifting off the saddle or moving around that will really hurt the roll. Maybe tinkering with your outfitting would do the trick.,

Re: Critical Mass K-1 to C-1, Hip-pads?
Good advice, I might just try some temporary foam, taped in, just to see if it helps. The boat works great as a C-1 conversion. Paddles impossibly easy & is very forgiving. Paddles like a much smaller boat than it is, but you do have to "drive" it. My only problem is my roll, but that's me, not the b...

Re: Critical Mass K-1 to C-1, Hip-pads?
I just inspected one the other day looking at conversion possibilities and I'd go without the hip pad unless you really have to have them... I figured it would be just fine without, but thats just me

Re: Hip pads on Critical Mass
get some cutting boards from walmart and a heat gun create some 90 degree angles and bolt them in. Once they are bolted in you can add foam into them. Try to keep things as low profile as possible they can affect getting in and out of the boat

Hip pads on Critical Mass
Guys, I have converted a DR Critical Mass to C-1. I am thinking of adding hip-pads, to aide with control/roll. The mounting seems like it could be a problem. Any suggestions/experience ? Overall, I have been very happy with the boat. Peace...HH
