Prototype Cobra OC1 slalom boat
I'm cleaning out my collection of Classics... This is my original prototype 4 meter Cobra. My personal not-so-perfect layup. I estimate that, with new gunwales, it would weigh a little over 30 lbs. It's really fast, but moderately squirrelly. I finished First (Masters) at the Minnesota Nationals with ...

Re: Beowulf lives!
I wouldn't call the Cobra ugly...and there are some similarities. The reason Beowulf is 2 inches wider is because I'm six five and 240 lol.
That picture is before I added (more-or-less tacked on) the extra depth on the ends. At this point, the boat is 12 years old and has been trashed several ...

Re: Beowulf lives!
Looks a little like my Cobra design except 2" wider.
I ended up adding 2"-3" of height to the bow and stern. Even with the bow flare it took on water in the bigger waves, the stern had the same problem. Now the boat is really dry though. Just uglier. :-?

... have paddling your own creation will make it all worthwhile. Please do post some on-water images and a review!
To me it has some lines of both the Cobra and Bulldog, but is certainly its own boat! I'm guessing nice primary stability but secondary might be a bit less than you'd think. If you can keep ...

Re: Splash guard for Viper??
My original Cobra (slalom boat) design was very wet until I added this roughly 1.25" wide flare. Now I rarely get water over the front.

... be the train company too. Actually (and somewhat coincidentally to the CSX name), this is where I currently work. Era Replicas My CSX comes from Cobra (OC1) - Stinger (C1) eXchange. A blend of both my old hull designs into a third.

Tentatively named either the CSX or the Scip, but I'm always open to suggestions.
(The two "parent" boats were the Cobra and the Stinger, thus the C and S in the name.)

... that can be compared. But, that would take the fun out of it.
Well, I actually do stopwatch'd circuits with all my boats, so my comparisons are associated with real numbers. I'm a Friggin' engineer. I like numbers. 8)

Re: Ok, what's the fastest whitewater boat you've paddled?
... boat I had. The guy who built it over 30 years ago didn't remember which model it was.
OC-1 - My Wenonah C1W. This is a downriver racer that most folks (other than Gene Jensen) would consider a flatwater boat. 16.5' long w/ NO rocker.
I do want to try some of Kaz's boats. Bob's Cobra looks good too.

Re: Ok, what's the fastest whitewater boat you've paddled?
Not even close. My Cobra flies. It's even faster than my slalom C1 in flat water, and my C1 is the fastest C1 I've ever paddled (and I've paddled most of the slalom C1s built in the last 30 years). And it's much, much faster than the Spark.
