Hornet and Magnet comparisons

... them out. So, first impressions after taking each out on a familiar I-II stretch of the Roanoke River near me. Outfitting in each needs some adjustment ... Hornet - blazingly fast - just as fast as my Fanatic on flatwater - I did back to back comparisons - the fastest cruising ...

Re: C-boat for 120 lb 11 year old to learn - which to pick

Cut down Fanatic sounds like the best choice.

A nice waterline without too much rocker (to help going straight and not be too frustrated), light weight, and fairly easy to roll.

Storm Chaser would be my second choice; perhaps put him in both and see which he appears more confident in?

C-boat for 120 lb 11 year old to learn - which to pick

... I'm only 5'8" so he is not likely to grow a lot more height, but he is basically the size of a small adult now. I'm pretty sure I will go with the Fanatic or some other sort of slalom boat, but I've not taught a kid to C1 before and I would welcome input from those of you who have. He will also ...

Fanatic C1(Bell) and Dagger Atom

I have a Bell Fanatic and a Dagger Atom I'd like to trade for a Blackfly Octane 92. Bell Canoe Works made a limited run of Fanatics. This boat was used primarily as a trainer, though it did compete in a few dozen races. Comes with ...

Re: Full cut Acrobat?

... As PAC said though, get what you want and have fun. FWIW I think you'd find only a little difference between a full volume Acrobat and a shortened Fanatic. The two shapes are very similar (The Fanatic being the newer design). The Acrobat was based on a cut down race boat....

Re: Full cut Acrobat?

Thanks for all of your inputs. I should add that I have a Fanatic that has damaged ends that I intend to cut down - it is a training layup so fairly solid. I've not cut it yet but it should be fun also once done. I've paddled it as is some and it is a ...

Old school boats

A cut-down Acrobat, fairly heavy s-glass layup; and a Fanatic, I think it's a Kevlar hull. Fanatic is an F-1 I think but not sure. Fanatic needs some repair as the rear "point" got crunched, but it's fairly easily repairable I think. Might be a good ...

Re: Slalom C1 for heavy paddler & relative beginner (in slal

A Zealot (sort of a successor to the Fanatic) would be cab-forward, forgiving, with a friendly stern that could be chopped to 3.5 meters. Unfortunately you are very unlikely to find one in the UK.

Re: Slalom C1 for heavy paddler & relative beginner (in slal

... I don't think you are going to find a 3.5M boat that is appropriate for your weight. My recommended boat for you is a full-cut Extrabat, Cudamax, Fanatic or similar design vintage. At your weight, any of those will still act like a low-volume stern contemporary design. I would stay away from the ...

Frankly, I don't think you are going to find a 3.5M boat that is appropriate for your weight. My recommended boat for you is a full-cut Extrabat, Cudamax, Fanatic or similar design vintage. At your weight, any of those will still act like a low-volume stern contemporary design.
