... cm wider, and almost all of that is in the bottom of the boat where width actually matters. the only boat that comes close to being a kayak is the martikan by vajda, and still there are huge differences. the volume is also way different, beause in a kayak, all of the weight is from the cockpit ...

... not as smooth in the water as the prospector, but dam durable, at least in my arctic experience. to throw out my 2 cents, i think that the martikan, this years in particular. is also food for thought. it's not like any other C1. it has 2 cm wings, and is super deep, huge rocker, and very ...

there are no martikans in the U.S. Julian Potvin of Canada has one. it doesn't work for him in my opinion, but it floats. It's just a super hard boat to paddle, because you can't throw yourself around, you have to be centered... ...

... But seriously - I haven't been able to put a finger on it, but there has to be some force of nature that gives an advantage to the lefties. Martikan has some pretty incredible moves - but I do think his body size plays a big part.

... ASCI course next year. I personally can't wait. I hope all of the top paddlers travel to the US to race. It'll be pretty neat being able to watch Martikan race in person--assuming he would come to this race. Nate

Re: boatin

Two things stand out about Martikan. First -- the video of Martikan right after his "bad" runs (like after his first run in the Olympic Finals in 2000, and after his first run in the '96 Olympics). Go look at those sometime. Second -- ...

Yeah, it's sort of amazing to realize how challenging these courses are, and how hard these guys are ripping. I remember how gripped I was above Humongous on the Ocoee in 2001, and to see what Martikan does there, knowing how I felt, puts it into a pretty humbling perspective...edg

on daily motion, there is also a video called martikan y estanguet Bratislave( I am pretty positive that the video has it spelled like that, perhaps it's european), I have to thank Ed Gordon for this one though. It just is rad to see what they are comfortable on, and what they can do.

... the USACK wants to meet with you about "the future of slalom"--well, I have stated their actual intentions above. Oh, yes, and another thing about Martikan. Imagine you are good enough to win a gold at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 against people twice your age--you are sixteen years old then. You ...

Isaac, I believe you touched on an important point in most of the top paddler's styles when you said they were subtle. Not only does Martikan use his lower body subtly, but notice when he is paddling forward, he does not lean forward and backwards as much, and does not seem to be desperate ...

... so much do with their total understanding of each other, and that they know exactly when to throw their weight. I have almost stopped looking at Martikan for it makes no sense to look at someone who paddles a kayak with wings, and who does things that shouldn't be possible. He is fun to watch, ...

It's just a joy to watch the Hochshorners and Martikan paddle. Sometimes, speaking of lefties, I wish we had a time machine to watch Lugbill and Hearn race against Martikan in these new boats on Bratislava (and Richard Fox against the K-1s). Now that would be fun to see.

... for this years slalom footage yet. and at least they have the harder moves at a wide screen shot so you can see placement, and timing... but with Martikan it doesn't matter because physics don't apply to him. and as for next years Olympics, I hope we qualify a C1. we have to beat Canada, and it's ...
