Re: Boat Width/Stability vs Height
Just my $0.02, but I think you will find the Vertige a bit of a barge. It is quite a bit larger and heavier than the Ocoee and is overall more stable. It also does not have the distinct chines of the Ocoee which means it will not carve into turns as well and will tend to skid. You ...

Boat Width/Stability vs Height
... critical to comfort. Am i thinking about this correctly for OC as well? Where's the trade-off for boat stability? Out of curiosity, how would an Ocoee (Nova craft) be for a first boat of someone my size (140 lbs) - would mostly be river running around southern Ontario. How about a Vertige? Thanks.

Re: Condor vs Rebel
... The Rebel is faster than the Condor, the Condor is more maneuverable, much drier, and more stable/predictable. The Condor paddles kind of like an Ocoee, but better. If you still haven't decided by next May, you can try my boats when I'm driving through Arkansas. And I'll check with Vargas to see ...

Re: did Dagger steam bend Ocoee gunwales?
I've done 2 Ocoee's in ash that I'm pretty sure was kiln dried. No problem w/o steam, as Kaz said. Also... I milled them to 5/8 x 3/4 w/ alternating fasteners every 5.5". Milled 1 x 1 thwarts w/ a 1/2" roundover (thus making them ...

Re: did Dagger steam bend Ocoee gunwales?
Just a thought-- for furniture and wooden boat parts in general, useful steam bending requires air-dried wood, not kiln dried. Of course 99% of wood you buy is gonna be kiln dried. Dagger might have been buying large-ish lots of green ash, milling it down to an inch or so, selecting the straight gra...

Re: Comparing new OC-1 solos for 200+lbs
Pat, The Agent 88 has the nimbleness of the Covert 9.3, but not the top sustained speed it can reach. The Agent 88 handles like an Ocoee in the front half and more stability in the stern. Attainements are easy in the Agent 88 and Covert 9.3, 10.5 that you usually don't do in these short ...

Re: Esquif's 'Excite' for size L paddlers
... seem like safe bets for a comfy, stable boat (but yeah, heavy), but I'm hoping they are more nimble than the Octane 91. I enjoy the edges of the Ocoee and Viper an dlike to be able to tilt my boat a bit. Hearing the Condor is likely more playful than the Covert helps! Thanks Wendy. Hi Brian. ...

Re: Esquif's 'Excite' for size L paddlers
Pat, I owned a Covert 10.5. It is a very stable and comfortable boat, not as edgy as a Rebel or Ocoee. The Condor for the 200 # plus crowd would be the most stable and playful of the plastic boats. I now own an Agent 88 and Octane 91. The Agent 88 is so much fun. It reminds ...

Comparing new OC-1 solos for 200+lbs
... if anyone has any info on the new Excite (or the Condor, Rebel or Covert 10.5) for a 230 lbs class III hack. I've been happy in an Outrage and Ocoee (which I'm sadly getting too heavy for), but am looking for something new. I found the Octane 91 too much of tank to paddle with any grace on ...

Re: Covert 10.5 vs Rebel Handling?
... assume all the Covert references here are for the 9.3. The Covert 10.5 and the Rebel are more comparable in size. I'm about 230 lbs, and I find my Ocoee doesn't keep me upright in places where a modern big-boy boat like a L'Edge, Octane 91, Condor... Rebel?, Covert 10.5? might. I found the Octane ...
