Re: Whithewater tripping solo canoe

Thanks for all these advices again. Now does anyone have comments on the Prodigy? Looks like it would be a great solo tripping boat. Other choices are Viper 11, Nitro, Probe 11 and Spark. I find the Nitro too slow. I have a Probe 12 II and find it too large; ...

... owner of the probe 12. Is that the "regular Outrage" or the "Outrage X" that you're talking about.. because I believe the initial question was ... the Outrage X so can't compare these two. Some claim that the Bell prodigy X is a more interesing hull compared to the Outrage X... so perhaps ...

If you see a used Prodigy X, you might think about buying it.

... choice if she has excellence balance, can sit in an 8" or lower seat, and is interested in a smaller boat. If she's in the Class 2/easy 3 realm, a Prodigy could be a good buy. Both the Prodigy and an Outrage would be in a similar performance category to the Rival. The Ocoee and Phantom would be ...

Re: Help Choosing my First WW Solo Canoe

An Outrage should be on your list of boats to try as well. It shares a lot of characteristics with the Prodigy and while its not quite as small a boat it is rather narrow. Other good points are that they can be rather light (with wood gunwales), they are still in production ...

... can be hard to accelerate if you don't have a good, efficient forward stroke. I'd be inclined to go with the advice given here to look for a used Prodigy, Bell Ocoee, Dagger Phantom (several women in the Vancouver BC Beaver Canoe Club like these), or Zoom to start and then try some of the PE boats ...

... shops/manufacturers, I would agree with others that you should see if you can find a light L'Egde. I also know smaller people who love the Bell Prodigy, and it would be worth trying out if you find one. Good luck and go demo!

Re: Help Choosing my First WW Solo Canoe

I know quite a few women who really enjoy the Bell Prodigy. It is fairly narrow, and not very deep, which makes it easy to reach the water at all times. ALSO, it tracks fairly nicely, which is very pleasant if you are paddling class 1's and 2's with ...

Re: Help Choosing my First WW Solo Canoe

I know a women about your size who loves her Bell Prodigy which was her first WW boat. It has forgiving edges but still carves nicely. Narrow enough for a small person to do a cross-forward stroke. It has average primary stability but very strong ...

... than a Probe, but not much. If you want faster, I'd look at an Outrage X or an Encore...and perhaps someone on this forum could comment on the Bell Prodigy X. I spent some time in a standard Prodigy and liked it OK (not as much as my Outrage) ...

L'Edge or OCtane1 ?

I love my Prodigy Xs, but I'm thinking about getting a plastic creeker, though I'm not attracted to the tiny boats (Taureau, Ion, S. Fly, B'fly). The L'Edge and the Octane1 are about the same weight (61# & 59#, respectively, except ...
