Re: Best full-slice conversion

I have a Big EZ. It's very slow, but good on steep waves. I had a Forplay, which was faster and would stay on waves that weren't as steep. The Forplay is as close as you'll get to Sith performance in plastic.

Re: Recommendation for river runner C1

180 or so seems a good weight for stern squirting the Atom, at your weight it may be impossible quite frankly. A cut down Shaggy Sith may work, but at your weight you may want to try a Acrobat; though it is a squirt boat for many, you may need the stern volume that low to squirt easily. ...

... fit for what you are trying to do (well, it's not going to flat spin...). If your local rivers / paddling style fit with it I'd go for a Shaggy Sith if you can track one down - awesome all around boat (well, I wouldn't creek in it!).

Re: Under rated boats...

My top two are the Viper and Sith. Neither are under rated. The Sith is my favorite for surfing. I've been asked if it was designed for my local wave. The Viper is fast, surf's well on the river and ocean, plus I can stern squirt it on ...

Under rated boats...

... Facebook, other forums, etc...). Admittedly it very much depends on what you are looking for - two of my long term favorite boats are the Shaggy Sith and Frachella designed Viper C1. Both great river running boats that play well. But you are all mostly familiar with them. So what other gems are ...

... you on the speed. I don't think I'd want it for big stuff. I tend to pick up the speed when I get scared. Lol. The storm chaser is faster than my Sith, but no match for my vipers or 4 meter vajda nova. Other than the inability to pivot, I think the storm chaser is a darned good all around boat.

Re: C1 & C2 Boating

I was able to spend a lunch break in a storm chaser at my local park and play spot. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it surfed. My Sith surfs better, but the Storm Chaser probably does most everything else better.

... surf just about anything you point it at as long as you can get to it. The atom needs a wave with a bit more velocity or steepness to lock in. The Sith would have been another boat I'd consider but I've only paddled one once, Gonzo's in 2006 at Fascination Alley. Hope to get together again on a ...

Re: New Prototype boat from Shaggy Designs

This is great news! I still love my Sith, but it would be neat to have a fast Shaggy.

Re: Full cut Acrobat?

Or for something that is very stable and a blast get a Sith:) For a comfortable river runner with high playability you can't get much better. It isn't as fast as the other boats though. As PAC said though, get what you want and have fun. FWIW I think ...

Re: New Freestyle OC1?

... a new properly designed boat that lets me get low on the seat would be the way forward. Of course the Pagan may be good enough for me, a big cut Sith almost certainly would be but I would smash the ends at Pinkston :( Short boats needed for small courses! I can hit the bottom with Session+ as ...

Re: Go to boat?

Usually the one I'm not in! :-(

That said... C1 - Sith hands down for everyday boating.... Like the Option (but don't yet have one) so I'm beating with a Prelude (darn good boat) for an OC1.

Like in life no one does it all -- but some do it better than others.

We had 2 C1's in 2004, I think Gwyn (Ashcroft, Shaggy Designs) got through upright in his high cut Sith, Chris Bolton in a converted Redline needed a roll after the Vee wave but was able to get clear of the holes on the right towards the cheese grater. ...

Re: LL Space Cadet? Playboat advice needed...

Gwyn and Martin at Shaggy Designs started out as slalom paddlers, in the development of the Sith they stuck with a wider platform closer to slalom C1 principles than kayak playboat principles. From what I remember paddling with Gwyn in 2004 (wow, time flies) his Sith ...

Re: LL Space Cadet? Playboat advice needed...

GSG, don't know what your weight is, but if you want a conversion that is reasonably close in performance to a Shaggy Sith, then you should, mayne talk to you fellow VI resident Pierre LaPadelle and see if his Delirious is still available. I had one and I found it , due to it's width, ...
