Re: Spring 2019 Armada

Adam, Glad to hear you had good level on the NB. A lot of natural flow rivers were up in the area so that contributed to the low turn out. In brief conversations with other boaters in the NE I get a sense that there has been a noticeable drop off in numbers. Among the people I canoe with that seems ...

Re: Spring 2019 Armada

Looks like it is going to be a beautiful weekend to enjoy. My most memorable armadas was the year when there were heavy rainstorms that brought the river up higher than normal release levels and we put in in pea soup fog that limited visibility to maybe 100 yards. It was so surreal, sounds seemed mu...

Re: Spring 2019 Armada

Adam,

Currently I'm scheduled to join a group canoe camping in Smoke Hole Canyon that weekend. If the water is too low there then I may join you at the North Branch.

Winni River Days 6/24/2018

I showed up at the river after I saw the gauge rising to be pleasantly surprised to be at a well organised event with free / donation accepted shuttle for this short but sweet run. https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/3057/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; You can...

Re: 20/20 At Zoar Gap On The Deerfield

Mikey, It surfs just about anything you park it on, big or little. It's quick to go to where you point it but it has a top speed that makes it less enjoyable on rivers that have long pools between rapids. I like it on the loop at the Lower Yough but I wouldn't take it to Bruners. For a C1 with no ed...

Re: 20/20 At Zoar Gap On The Deerfield

The posted level was 800 CFS. I would say that it was probably correct.

This past weekend the posted level was 900, but calculating the downstream inflows before the guage led us to believe the actual was nearer 1000 CFS. The holes were much wider.

20/20 At Zoar Gap On The Deerfield

Last weekend friends paddled the Deerfield river and produced this short video of us running Zoar Gap at the end. The video features two Millbrook boats first the Red/Black themed Shacho and then the Gray 20/20. At the end is myself in a blue and white Storm Chaser. https://vimeo.com/274292801" oncl...

Re: New Air Bags

Thanks for all the input. One bag is in and I'm working on the lacing cage for the second. New question or observation. I've only had one other open canoe that I sold ten years ago and stopped paddling almost 17 years ago about the time of the first Hudson Armada. I've paddled decked boats exclusive...

Re: New Air Bags

Thanks for reply.

Do you have a picture of a ball inflater or can you describe it in more detail? Or are you talking about the little needle that you use to inflate footballs etc...?

New Air Bags

I ordered and received two new nylon bags from Mohawk Canoes and haven't put them in the canoe yet but I note that there is no tube and roberts valve just a fast fill port for an electric pump. So how do I adjust the air pressure when I'm on a multi day trip or even between cloud and sunshine? Is th...

Re: C1 to OC1 or not

Paul, I have raised the saddle, and that has helped but I can see there is a limit of diminishing returns. The higher you raise the saddle the less likely your thigh straps will hold you in the boat longer than one or two roll attempts. I think there is a video of me rolling your Viper at the play w...

Re: C1 to OC1 or not

Thanks guys for your perspective. I can say that kboating is not an option, my back would not take it, C1 is therapy. I will stick with the C1's as it just doesn't make sense to make a huge investment in glass open boats, because no one boat is going to be satisfactory on every river I paddle. What ...

C1 to OC1 or not

I've been paddling C1's exclusively for 16 years and still enjoy the ride. As I get older it becomes evident that I will have to consider transitioning to something that is easier on my knees, or is that a misconception? I ask because I spent a day in a boat I really like, a Shacho, and yes it allow...

Re: East Coast Armada

Well its been a month since the last post. I will be down in McHenry to start on Friday visiting fellow C1er Walt. Hoping the forecasted rain brings the regions rivers back up to Aprils bounty. Is there any schedule for the squirt worlds, time of day for events etc..? I didn't see anything on Angst ...
