I'm off to the West Branch of the Penobscot.

Re: big feet big butt
Last time I bought a big hunk of foam at the local "paddle" shop up here I think it was $45 for a piece 1'x4'x3", which could yield two saddles of almost the same dimensions as that NRS one. That saddle seems expensive to me, especially considering it is only 6" wide and one 9" wide is available fro...

Re: big feet big butt
You get what you pay for and foam is pretty expensive. Not that expensive. You could make 2 of those saddles out of a $45 hunk of foam. harry, just add some foam to either side of it and you should have a serviceable saddle. Sucks to do more work on something you just bought, but it is what it is.

OC2 Saddle placement
I need some input for saddle placement in a Genesis I am turning to OC2. What is the normal distance between paddlers in an OC2? Anyone have a Blast/Probe 14 they could measure? The boat used to have a kneeling thwart in it. I was thinking of using that as a center point for positioning the saddles,...

Maine, Penobscot West Branch - The Race That Never Was!
Any of you northeastern folks that are in the neighborhood should come up to the West Branch of the Penobscot this weekend. Saturday will be the first official running of "The Race That Never Was" down the Penobscot from Rip Gorge through Cribworks. Even if you don't want to race, it will be a great...

Re: Olympics.....Dude.
It looks like you can stream it live via the nbcolympics site, but only if you have a login for your cable company AND your subscription includes MSNBC and CNBC. Guess I'll be staying up late tonight... Shep Hint: pick a random cable company and say you forgot your login. Then just use any old emai...

Re: Quik Release/Skirt Pull Combo
Krikkit, just to clarify what is going on in that mass of green webbing: Both thigh straps are going to the snap shackle on their own loops and then the long bit runs from the release under your skirt and out?

You can always feel better about "sneak routes" if you call them the "Creek move."

Re: dead river release 7-21/22-12
Maybe next time there is a good low release like that we'll come up. Looks like fun, judging from Harry's videos. As far as the inexperienced boater goes, I have no doubt I could safely get her down the Dead at that level, but I want her to have fun and learn to love boating. The Dead can be a loooo...

Re: seek feedback
You look pretty in control to me. At least more than the kayaker in the yellow boat.... It is hard to get a good boof on low volume scrappy runs like that. Fortunately, I've always found that no matter what approach to a drop a Prelude will boof well if you get a good stroke at the lip. Doesn't matt...

Re: dead river release 7-21/22-12
Ouch! Almost though about doing the dead sunday, but I had an inexperienced friend with me. The Kennebec gorge was an exciting ride Saturday at 6500 cfs, and the K-Bomb race went awesome. Only saw 1 other C-boat on the Kennebec all day....

I'll be up there volunteering at the K-Bomb race. I'll say hi to any one I see with canoes.

Re: C-Boaters with nose plugs?
I often find that the knot comes loose on my nose plug tether... what knot should I be tying? Nose plugs are expensive! You probably need one of THESE to really hold make sure they wont fall off. I know it is intended for nose plug retention due to the fact it is being sold on a kayak gear website.

Re: swift river n.h.
I'm not a real member (yet) but I've enjoyed my time boating with some of them this spring. It is good to have other open boaters around, not something I am accustomed to while running with young gun creekers.
