Millbrook is going to be offering the Stinkeye soon also, it is quite similar to the L'Edge and the estimated hull wt (no outfitting) is around 23lbs.

I love OC1 but having started at the same time as my wife started k1, I believe k1 to be much easier to learn, if that is your main concern.

I still like oc1 better, more ascetically pleasing and better comfort for me.

I really like the NRS COM3 booties that others have mentioned already. They are nice and flexible with just enough of thickness to keep my feet (mostly) intact. I wear them when I paddle all day, even when I am tripping I generally don't bother changing until after dinner. I have done 2 mile portage...

I am in the 230 range and have paddled (poorly, not the boats fault) a L'edge and it felt really nice, no problem with the paddler weight whatsoever.

Aquabound makes a decent 2 or 3 peice for ~$120. Baring that there are the true emergency paddles that telescope that run $15-20 that are at least close to the quality that the shovel handle homebrew paddle.
