Re: Comparing new OC-1 solos for 200+lbs
... self support trip with 40+ lbs of camping gear. A couple of weeks later, on hades's canyon with daily flows between 15K and 20K cfs, the 91 was a blast as well. My new boat though, like Wendy, is the Silverbirch Agent 88, which is an uncannily intuitive, forgiving and yet nimble boat. In terms ...

Documenting the Shasta River Canyon
... finite resource. This was the only place we had to actually get out of our canoes. With another few inches of water, this rapid would really be a blast. Best route seemed to be on far river-right. CROCODILE III+ While we were scouting from the road, we saw a long, S-turn rapid of a hundred-plus ...

Re: Thoughts on Esquif Blast??
Alright, I'll throw in my 2 cents. You need a 20/20 from Millbrook Boats.
10'4" long, but it's fast and dry. Check the facebook page for pics.
We also make the Outrage in composite, and of course the Defiant for maximum slalom-like speed.

Re: Thoughts on Esquif Blast??
Based on the original post... sounds like you should consider ordering a Condor from Blackfly - due out this summer. Edgy long boat, that supposedly may work as a tandem - so 250lbs shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Thoughts on Esquif Blast??
Nobody has mentioned a Millbrook Defiant (AKA Fat Boy). Or a Millbrook Outrage (not X) for that matter. (I've paddled and loved them both...)

Re: Thoughts on Esquif Blast??
I'm a little late to the thread... but Blast is excellent for paddling with a smaller paddler in your bow ie:kids. Willa and I ran big water as well as creekier stuff in the blast. Now that mine kids are grown up I'm selling my blast if anyone is interested. send me an email pmp@magma.ca

... and Lower Yough). More competent boaters than I would run the Viper down the Lower and Upper Gauley. The low volume stern has been an absolute blast to squirt, and the boat is very controllable when near vertical. John Franchella (the boat’s designer) was very kind in providing me detailed ...

Re: Thoughts on Esquif Blast??
We bought a Blast that was outfitted solo and immediately converted it to a tandem. My solo boat is generally an Ocoee. We are fans of the twisty-turnies and occasionally venture out on some bigger water. As a tandem team we are ...

Re: Thoughts on Esquif Blast??
I raced a Blast tandem once and felt completely out of my element. It felt like there was zero initial stability. That said a buddy and his wife have been racing one successfully for years.

Re: Thoughts on Esquif Blast??
I love the Octane 91. For more speed at your weight a Covert 10.5 would be fantastic. I own one and bought it for trips on Western runs, but live in the East. The Blast is also an excellent boat at your weight and is a surfing machine, faster than the 91, but does not spin as easily.

Re: Thoughts on Esquif Blast??
would an ocoee suit someone that weighs in around 230+ and be faster than an octane 91? i assume that you would loose a lot of the benefits of an ocoee with my large arse!!! am i right? d A vast array of body types paddle Ocoees. I expect someone will be on here in a minute saying 230# works well. ...
