Was Jordan P. paddling an Ion or an Octane for his OC-1 run? I couldn't tell from the quick highlight reel.
Also, this shows Dane Jackson C-1 ing at about 3:35.

Re: Oc-1 or -2 for small-ish teenagers?
Actually, I'm selling the Vertige because I can't get the kids to paddle it. It's too unwieldy for them. We do have a Blast, and they like that well enough; it's even reasonably manageable for an older kid to solo. They jump at the opportunity to paddle duckies, which is fine, but I really think mos...

Oc-1 or -2 for small-ish teenagers?
This is related to the Vertige-X I just listed for sale. Of the open boats that tend to roll around for sale used, what would be the most user-friendly for teenagers in the 125-140 lb. range? The Vertige-X is a really forgiving boat for average-sized adults, but the kids are just too small for it, a...

Esquif Vertige X w/triple saddle SOLD
Asking $1,500. Outfitting is in great condition (can be paddled single or tandem). Boat hull has some wear from being a club boat, but no cracks or delam, and is solid. Has skid plates. Does not come with airbags. Located in Bethlehem, PA. This is a great tandem boat, but it belongs to our high scho...

Re: Musings on why I still C1
Cadster, I'm glad to hear of someone else who "goes both ways." I kayaked for years and recently started paddling OC-1. I love 'em both--very different ways to enjoy the river; different sorts of challenges. I'm surprised that so few people cross-over paddle this way. I'm learning to canoe in an Ion...

The airlock: Another advantage of owning an Ion! Thanks, Cheeks, I sooooo wish I could get on the Toh today, but I have a work obligation until late. Luckily the work obligation is to take a bunch of kids hiking, but still... I hope it rains on a weekend soon! :) (Btw, I don't know if you remember, ...

Re: NEW GUY
Hey Mark, I'm a new open boater in the Lehigh Valley and am also looking to hook up with someone who wouldn't mind giving a noob some pointers. Maybe we could get a small group of new boaters together and see if anyone is willing to come help us out? Also, there are roll classes every Satruday and S...

Re: C1 Playboating massacre!
I've been having a lot of fun in my new Blackfly Ion; might be something to consider. It's short, with a playboat hull, and very stable. It catches any wave my kayak friends can catch and is really fun to paddle downriver.

Question about foot pegs
I'm not sure how to use them, or what purpose they serve. In my Ion, I kneel with the top of my feet flat against the hull and a bit out toward the sides of the boat. I don't use ankle support or anything, and I'm pretty comfortable (by c-boat standards, I guess). So far, I've just been pushing the ...

Re: when men were men...
"when men were men... they made their own boats from a tree." And they paddled them in waters full of alligators and cottonmouths! When I lived in south Louisiana, a lot of people called my little fishing kayak a "pirogue." I used to get lots of wisecracks and free bait shrimp from the shrimp-boat c...

Re: Blackfly Ion as first boat??
I did find it a bit alarming to approach eddy lines all day with almost no speed. Yikes! :o It was fine on class II water, though; the edges engaged really well, a lot like my Pyranha Burn, really. I think I'd rather have a steep initial learning curve in a fun boat that I can grow into than opting ...

Thanks for the great feedback!
I'd like to demo an Option before I decide, but I sure did have fun in that Ion!

Blackfly Ion as first boat??
Help a sister out with some advice! So, I demoed an Ion this past weekend, just because it was available, and the Option wasn't. I'm a novice canoeist, experienced kayaker. I looked at that tiny, tubby boat and thought "no way I'm going to like this; heck, I probably won't even be able to keep it up...

Re: C1 Rolling and PFD advice
PeakUK and Harmony make low-profile, type III PFDs. Peak also makes a rescue PFD that's very good and not bulky in front.

Re: Finally!
I'm doing the Zoar clinic on the 11th/12th, and I'm not an absolute novice, either. I've been kayaking for years and I've messed around in tandem and solo canoes a few times this past year. I'm doing the clinic because I want to start canoeing more seriously, and I thought some good instruction was ...
