Re: Question: How to expand the whitewater open canoe base.

For a long time I have believed that there is a real market among 50 something guys. there are lots of us who like canoeing and just have noty been exposed to the WW aspect of the sport. And (drumroll please) we have money! Chris Kelly I agree that the financial aspect of it has a lot to do with it...

P.S. A little off topic, but I miss my '71 Bronco....yep 3 on the tree, crank windows, no power steering, no power brakes, drums all around, no A/C, about 12 mpg on a good day. Great for hauling a couple of OC's and a bit of gear though :)

Glad to see some of the old models coming back, and thankful that Esquif is pushing the envelope on new designs as well. I certainly hope that Twintex works out, and though I don't want one, I'm glad that some manufacturers are making plastic canoes. I think one of the facts that we seem to overlook...

I think you need to post that whole story...that was a classic :)

I started out paddling in the Boy Scouts, with tandem OCs. A few overnighters and a couple of 3 day trips had me hooked. Of course, my dad wouldn't buy me a boat, so I did without for a while. I would rent a canoe if there was an outfitter nearby, and did a few runs in rafts (about 8 trips between t...

Dagger Cascade
Dagger Ocoee
16' Indian River (in bad shape)

Thinking of getting rid of the Cascade and getting an OC2 though.

Happy with Ocoee Decision

Happy to say that I am very pleased with the Ocoee purchase. Bags are in and I've been on the Haw and the Cape Fear so far. I'm not 100% dialed in on the boat yet, but getting very comfortable in it. I've played a little, enough to find those edges and get a feel for how they react, but not enough f...

It's just joking on my part. I've paddled with kayakers, and we all get along. A guy that paddles kayak (a rec. boat) gets swamped frequently on some of the rivers and we always bail him out (cockpit so big that the skirt implodes). Kayakers helped me out when I was looking up at fish in my Cascade....

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree :) About a year ago, some friends and I were paddling and one of the guys was talking about paddling a 'yak the other day for the first time. We accused him of turning into one of those butt boaters, and he vehemently denied that he was thinking of giving up ...

Use the search function near the top of the page. There are several good posts on the subject already. A couple of high end ($) systems are mentioned in some posts, as well as the more common do it yourself approach and the components you may want to use.

I paddled both of the Ocoees and was surprised at the vast difference in the feel between the two. I paddled the pinched, but uncut boat first and it felt a little jittery but manageable after a few minutes. I was thinking...nope, bad idea. After about 5 or 10 minutes, I decided to try the other boa...

I'm not sure if you won on the boat on e-bay or not, but taking a wild guess that with you knowing the shipping costs, you backed off on that boat. It was a nice boat, but $840 for an Ovation, $250+ to ship it, and a few hundred more to add bags and the rest of the outfitting?? At that price, I woul...

I prefer neutral or very lightly biased to the stern.

Main thing is that the part of me closest to the sky looks likes :) and not like (_|_).

Thanks for the input Tiggy. I generally don't lean way out of the boat to catch water, but there have been times that I've ended up extended over the water a bit (on purpose) to make a move. It's mainly when I plant a duffolk for a fast turn out of current into a smaller eddy that I'll do that, or i...

Thanks for the offer Phil. That was a fun trip, we went up about a month ago on the nanty and I got a nice view of the fish on Patton's. I was trying out that Cascade after putting in new outfitting that week...hadn't even put it in the water at that point. The saddle was way too high and the trim w...
