Re: Homemade OC1, Stability Issues

The very first OC1 I designed, looked a lot like your boat. I strongly recommend making it wider in the waterline. I guess the Reaktor isn't what you're talking about. Interestingly enough, despite its lack of initial stability, I found the Reaktor (24" wide, relatively round hull) one of th...

Re: Homemade OC1, Stability Issues

P.S. It looks like you've cored the bottom. It might be too stiff when you pull in the gunwales. If it is, I would cut through the core longitudinally, maybe 2 cuts about 6" apart. That will allow the hull to round a bit when you pull in at the top. You can lay up additional material on top of the c...

Re: Homemade OC1, Stability Issues

It depends on how much rocker is built in, but you might just pull in the gunwales a couple of inches in the center of the boat. That will narrow the boat (especially at the top) and round the hull a bit. That's what I did with my Spark, and it's still an easy boat to paddle.

Re: Identify This Canoe

If the inside is smooth, it's probably Royalex. We'll need to know the length and width to allow us a reasonable guess as to the model.

Have you tried matching it here:

Re: Ankle Blocks - Knee Pain - Fix?

The OP's original question was however, about knees, not ankles. Ankle blocks will only put more pressure on the knees, not less.

Prototype Cobra OC1 slalom boat

I'm cleaning out my collection of Classics... This is my original prototype 4 meter Cobra. My personal not-so-perfect layup. I estimate that, with new gunwales, it would weigh a little over 30 lbs. It's really fast, but moderately squirrelly. I finished First (Masters) at the Minnesota Nationals wit...

Re: Nova Craft Ocoee Opinions

It is narrower. They cut the thwarts much too short and it makes for a significantly less stable boat. In my opinion it is not nearly as nice to paddle. The hull shape has been changed by the thwart change, because the mold is the same, but the thwarts are shorter. This results in the walls of the ...

Re: C1 Remix conversion: Seat position

Interesting numbers...

Doing some back-of-the-envelope calculations, shifting the lower leg mass from in front of the knee to pointing back moves the CG only 3-4". I'm making a bunch of weight guesses though.

Re: Fiberglass Mold Making

Keith, I sent you an e-mail. I've offered Kaz all my tooling, but unless he speaks up now, it's available to anyone who can pick it up. It also includes all my patterns for cutting the material. I'll even throw in most of the aluminum and stainless tips I had made. I have carbon and aluminum shafts ...

Re: Fiberglass Mold Making

I am the proud owner of a Howler and paddling this boat is what spurred me to consider a composite project in the first place. Definitely not trying to infringe on anyone's design rights and this was not an issue that occurred to me when I first hatched this scheme. An honest thanks for the heads u...

The lower you can keep the weak arm, the better. Unfortunately, rolling isn't conducive to that position.

Re: Paddle Recommendation?

Jim Cheers Bob - I have already failed to make head or tail of the different options Galasport offer :) Their website includes very scant details about the blades (or shafts), I guess I'll just have to borrow some paddles and see which ones I like. FWIW, I'm using the 3M Midi Carbon/Kevlar blade/sha...

Re: Paddle Recommendation?

Will the same paddle work for me in OC1 (Ocoee), C1 playboat (Session+, if I take to it) and Slalom C1 or should I be looking for 2 or 3 different paddles? (of course my questions are vastly different to the OPs question, for him I would say start with C100s with fibreglass shaft (cheap and service...
