Re: Whitesell Descender

The Whirlwind was designed by Dave Sherrill and produced by Nolan Whitesell. It paddles a bit different than either the Piranha or the Descender which are both Nolan's designs.

Re: Whitesell Descender

Looks like a Piranha to me; not a Descender.
Have made attempt to contact seller for clarification.

Descender would be a little shorter & lighter; that's what I need.
Have never ever seen a Whitesell Whirlwind..........

Thanks for the head up.

... boat in Tennessee-- http://chattanooga.craigslist.org/boa/2967295674.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Piranha? Descender? Whirlwind? I heard a few years ago that the unfinished Whitesells at the Nantahala are available. Might be worth a try if you really need a Descender.

... it as much as you C-boat. I canoe, but I mostly kayak, so I can sit in my "butt boat" (to use the preferred nomenclature) for far longer than my whirlwind. It's mostly a matter of your muscles stretching into that position. After I've been canoeing for several days I can last much longer, but ...

The Whirlwind has been my main boat for over 20 years. I just keep patching it up. It is great for the bigger water here out west. Very dry, kinda slow due to full front(hence dry) I have the light layup so is close to Z weight. ...

... heavy for what I'm looking for. Your comparison of the the Zephyr and Outrage is exaclty what I thought and that's why I started researching the Whirlwind. Just for knowledge, what is the Outrage weight with wood trim as opposed to vinyl? Thanks. And if anybody wants to sell a Whirlwind in my ...

... to eveyone who has given input. Unfortunately someone bought the boat tonight before I could get to it. I'm pretty convinced I could enjoy the Whirlwind, but I'll have to dry to find one to demo and possibly purchase. I've only paddled my Zephyr on small stuff. It's in great shape with no cracks. ...

You definitely want the Whirlwind

... hard to roll but every single one I know of, except for one, has cracked. It is like a glass boat that you can't repair yourself. I have had two Whirlwinds. My absolute favorite design. You could run the biggest water and steepest creeks in it but since you want to paddle class III you will love ...

Thanks to all of you offering a demo of these different boats. Also, you're right, the Whirlwind is not a Whitesell design. I forgot about that.

I was at the Nantahala today and stopped by to inspect the Whirlwind in Whitesell's window.

Definately old schoo...but so am I.

Note - the Whirlwind may have been made by Whitesell but it was designed by somebody else (Dave Sherril?) And also sold as a Sequel by Blue Hole.
