... to try a Defiant, I would be leary of plunking down money. I would be interested in the views of anyone who has paddled a Hooter. Bob P, the Cobra looks rather deadly for a tall, heavy paddler..... like an Edge. Not sure I need a boat that can skunk me when I am not paying attention in class ...

Here's the Millbrook layup of the Cobra final version. The prototype was dark blue, with a little less flare in the front.

WOW :o where else would you get the chance to own a prototype than here? I'll bet the Cobra is fun.

... combination of forward speed and turning. Probably a bit faster than the Spark in a straight line. If you want to save the big bucks, my prototype Cobra (35lbs) is available. Not pretty (or dry), but the fastest straight-line slalom boat ever. I guarantee it. 8)

... like my Zealot than the Spark would. Most of my paddling is done in a slalom C1, but I go back and forth between it, the Spark, a Reactor and my Cobra OC1 . I find that switching back and forth between boats improves my paddling skills overall, simply because the each take a much different technique.

Here is a link to Bob P's boat, the Cobra:

As I remember, the hull is based on an Estanguet slalom boat and is VERY "squirrelly".

I voted 1 chance per attendee, but if the raffle goes to the most swims, then I'm gonna bring my dry suit and borrow Bob Putnam's Cobra oc-1. That oughta net me the victory! 8)

I have pictures of my Cobra outfitting here. It's the same hull as my C1 so the leg position is similar. Both boats have been converted to separate knee and thigh straps, unlike what the picture shows. I also think that a solid bucket ...

... were high enough that I could sneak both boats, so that part was not a factor. The race boat was also about 10 lbs lighter. In flat water, my Cobra is about 4% faster than the Reaktor (I timed a closed course). In whitewater things get a lot more complicated. The Cobra doesn't turn well, is ...

So Bob, which is the faster boat, Cobra or Reaktor? Which is the better slalom boat?
Just from the photos, the Reaktor looks dry, but the Cobra looks real fast.

Snicker... My Spark is the slowest boat I own. (The others are a Reaktor, a Cobra, a slalom C! and a Hornet.)

Does that mean I'm spoiled? 8)

After each set, I do a cobra stretch (you'll find that in any yoga book) and then do a back strenghtening where I lie on my belly and lift arms and legs and hold that for ...
