Professor Paddle Ball Leavenworth, Wa June 7-10th
Come to the Professor Paddle Ball. Impress your friends by running the Wenatchee when there is actually water in it (something few canoes do for some reason). Enjoy long surfs at Turkey Shoot and Rodeo Hole. Win free gear. Watch as kayakers injure themselves on the big air ramp! Good fun for all! I ...

Re: Thoughts on a Mohawk Probe 12
If the Prelude hasn't scared you off I would go for something more responsive than the Probe. The Viper would be my choice.

Re: What is a broken boat worth?
The used boat market is pretty crappy here because of our proximity to Canada. The higher prices they pay for new boats drives the used boat prices up to insane levels. $800 for a boat with a fair amount of use is not uncommon. This is why I buy almost all my boats new. That being said I never was a...

Re: OC2 failure to flip
Yes, I mean the boat was stuck perpendicular to the water on its gunnel. I tried both solo and with a partner to get it to go all the way over. In doing so I managed to rip out a set of thigh straps and generate enough torque while trying to use a paddle sweep to get the boat to go the rest of the w...

OC2 failure to flip
I took my Caption to the pool earlier this week to see if me and my girlfriend could roll it. We couldn't even get it flipped! I have it set up with two Mohawk saddles, 48" end bags, and no center bag. Set up as a solo boat with two 72" bags it would sometimes hang up on one side, but a quick sweep ...

Re: Inflatable Canoes... would you?
I have a AIRE Lynx and a couple of the older style inflatable IK seats. I have thought about taking one of the seats and mounting it sideways in the boat like a saddle. If I faced backwards I could use the foot pegs that are already in it, and by crossing the thigh straps they would hold my knee pre...

Re: L'Edge wood gunnels
I put a few coats of Hellsman Urethane Spar varnish on mine when I got it last spring and it did not hold up well. This season I am using a marine grade urethane varnish. It may just be that I need to refinish them two or three times a year.

I sit in eddies and yell "Roll! ROLL! Don't panic! NO, I SAID DON'T PANIC!!!"
Does that count?

All three of my canoes were bought that way. Worked out well every time.

End of April Hells Canyon Trip
I am planning to hit Hells Canyon in late April. So far the plan is to drive down on April 22nd and camp by Brownlee Reservoir, launch the 23rd, and take out on the 26th. I'll be rowing a raft, so we will have some gear support, but depending on how many people want to go we may have to pack light o...

Re: Pump or no pump?
I have pumps in all of my boats and love them. Half the time I don't need them even in big water, but for continuous runs, rescues, or gear chases they are great. Plus I find myself at the back of the group a lot because I take pictures and it is nice to not have to stop to dump out the boat when th...

Re: Ready To Buy OC1 in WA
What town are you in, and what type of water are you looking to paddle? A friend of mine is/was selling a fiberglass Viper 11 made by Clipper for $600. Paddlenet (run by Yarnellboat on here) is based out of Vancouver. They have a for sale section that gets a fair amount of traffic. http://paddlenet....

Re: critique my roll?
The only thing that I would suggest that hasn't been said already is learn to stay in the boat longer. When you get on the river stuff will screw with your roll. Being able to hang out for 3, 4, or more roll attempts will come in handy.
