An option...

Rob: Consider a new Arkota from Two Brothers: http://www.twobrotherscanoe.com/products.html They're over in Garfield, AR, but I'm sure that some of the good folks at ACC could help with transportation. I have two of the Arkotas, and have found no better tandem canoe for moving water/ light whitewate...

Mohawk Gunwales

Jon:

Mohawk does have good ones, and they can also supply the aluminum inserts if you want some more rigidity (at least the Ft. Smith shop has offered such.)

Tung Oil and Tung Oil "Blends"

Folks: I stayed out of the discussion last time, but, since it has come up again: 1) Most of the commercially available finishes that are marked "Tung Oil" should be marked (IMHO) "Tung Oil Lite," including Watco and Formby's. They are typically made up with some tung oil, but also have solvents and...

Another possibility...

Take a look at: 16' Arkota from Two Brothers Canoe Co., a new manufacturing duo out of Garfield, Arkansas. http://www.twobrotherscanoe.com/ See my early write-up at: http://forums.arkansascanoeclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17059 Louis and Bill are working at making really good canoes, and this one mi...

One more opinion...

Dagger Dimension 1. I get to paddle with my sweetie 2. Loves big water 3. It can carry a lot of gear 4. It looks great on my Toyota Rav4 5. Only bummer, is that it weighs a ton Carol Carol has one agreeing paddler. Mine gets used as a tandem and as a solo boat. No creekin, but we don't have steep c...

Midwest to or from Philadelphia

Folks:

I'll be trucking over to Philly from Iowa and December 26, 2010 and returning on December 30.

Will have room for a boat on the way East and two on the return trip to the Midwest.

Al

Short Videos

Paul: As evidenced by the replies so far, I think that you'll not get good numbers unless you include at least one more possible answer to the poll, as there are categories of possible answers that you've left out. A couple of thoughts: Since nobody has indicated that they care for paying for videos...

Re: Thanks and keep it coming

Now, my next question: I understand the concept of a trim canoe but how do you do it without a sliding seat. Thanks again for all the help and comments. :P Jon: As I change the trim (or set it up initially) on every tandem (or solo, come to think of it) that I paddle, I can come close to an answer ...

Which boat...

I'll second the recommendation of the Dagger Dimension. Much better load carrying capacity and better turning ability than the Wenonah. They're not that easy to find, but well worth the search, especially at the weights that you're talking about.

Big Al (as opposed to myself, who might be termed "Somewhat Lesser than Big Al)... I'll not ask your age, but I (much older than dirt --in fact, I was on the design team for dirt) have found that, as I got older, the balance between various electrolytes (Potassium, salt, etc.) and blood sugar became...

A deal!

The owner of this boat, Dave Schwartz, sent me some photos. This boat looks like a real buy. Take a look if you are looking for a great "big water" tandem.

If I could wangle a trip to North Carolina, I'd have sent him a check this afternoon!

Re: Tinkering with thwart lengths

----- Another effect of widening a boat at one end is that the end in question ir raised proportionally to the increase in width, thus increasing the rocker slightly. For a paddler who weights the bow to turn, increasing the stern width will certainly make the boat turn more responsively. Out here in...
