Re: PFD's ...2018...

I have had the Green jacket, Zen, and Kokatat pfd. I just went back to the Green jacket for the lower profile and excellent pockets for organization as well as comfort on a short torso.

Re: Does anyone canoe in Colorado?

The Probe would be a great beginner boat for you, especially at that price. Put in a double pump set up for CO waters and you won't slow down your kayak buddies since you won't be stopping as frequently to dump.

Re: Thoughts on Esquif Blast??

I love the Octane 91. For more speed at your weight a Covert 10.5 would be fantastic. I own one and bought it for trips on Western runs, but live in the East. The Blast is also an excellent boat at your weight and is a surfing machine, faster than the 91, but does not spin as easily.

Re: Option vs. maxim

Thanks Alan for your feedback on the MO. The Royalex Ocoee was my favorite Royalex boat in 50 years of paddling. Now that my height has shrunk even more from age I need short boats so I can carry them, hence the interest in the MO. I think I will stick with my plastic modern designs for their length...

Re: Option vs. maxim

The Option and L’edge are excellent choices for your height weight and rivers. They are not as stable as a 91 but boof great and hold a ferry. The Lite L’Edge is really fun with its lighter weight than a 91 or Option. I have had all of them.

Duralite Covert 10.5 thoughts

Review of Covert 10.5 Duralite: I took the boat down a short section of the Nanty today to fine tune outfitting. The boat is only 4.5 pounds lighter than my, now John Willson's Duratuff version. It was not only easier to carry, but it makes the swing weight easier to handle getting it up on the head...

Re: why would you not use a pump?

I use a pump except the new Ion does not have one. Simple to set up with SLA, Atwood 1200, switch. I really like Matthew Toddhunter's lithium battery, military switch. If you want to buy a system from him contact him through Ridgespirit Outfitters on FB. The pump allows me to keep up with my kayaker...

Re: Feedback on Idol dry suit

I have had one for several months. The hard part is aligning the zipper initially to get it started. Once started it easily closes. To store the suit I run the "cover" back around the zipper and place it on the screw. The zipper has not gotten in the way, nor caught on the gunnels.

Re: water transfer thru bulkhead

I cut a 4-5 inch piece of 2 inch pipe then cut teeth into it and use it to enlarge hole. Another method I've used is to use breadknife after removing and freehand cut the enlargement. It looks nicer though if you start with the 2 inch pvc pipe for 2 inches so the outside is clean cut.

Re: Silverbirch 10.5 thoughts

Dropzone compared to Octane 91: I owned a Dropzone and sold it and have had the 91. The Dropzone is faster, feels wider, not as much primary stability, but a very playful, yet stable secondary that for creeking makes you giggle as you splat, smear, and boof. It is like a big Ion in it's creeking, bu...

Re: Silverbirch 10.5 thoughts

9.3 compared to 10.5 The 9.3 is more agile as a smaller lighter boat and had less primary stability. They both attain well and have wonderful secondary stability. I have a Superlite L'Edge so don't need the 9.3, but it is a great boat. They made the 10.5 as a tandem but it fills a niche for the larg...
