Suggestions for Slalom C1 and C2
My wife and I are looking to buy new (for us) slalom C1s and a C2 for doing slalom races. We are still debating whether to buy new or used. Here is a little background: * We have raced slalom for 25 plus years, although we haven't raced too much lately. We used to race quite a bit, racing many times...

Paddle Recommendation?
I'm not looking for a paddle recommendation for myself. (FYI I've been using Mitchell paddles for years and really like them.) My wife and I paddle with a university club that has its own canoe and kayak gear. Currently the club has Mohawk canoe paddles that, at least in my opinion, are durable but ...

Storm Chaser C1 for Sale - SOLD
Storm Chaser C1 - size L for sale - mfg by River Elf This item has been sold. I'm selling this boat because I would like to get I slightly smaller size of the Storm Chaser. The boat is just over a year old, has cosmetic scratches on it, but has no damage or cracks. River Elf makes their boats to be ...

Re: Kelly-Rand's Storm Chaser
I also have a River Elf Storm Chaser - size L. I had the same problem - I would come loose when I tried to roll and wouldn't get a good hip snap since I couldn't stay tight in the boat. A bit of this was - I'm sure - due to operator error, but I couldn't stay tight enough to make a second attempt at...

Re: Slalom boat outfitting.
I'm way, way late in responding. I have a River Elf Storm Chaser C1. I just ordered a spray skirt from Snap Dragon, and it fits the boat fine and is not hard to get on. Two things here. Snap Dragon has a template for a skirt to specifically fit the Storm Chaser from River Elf. I don't know if you go...

Re: Choosing a boat?
Forgot to mention another (IMHO) advantage of a composite boat - weight. My boat was just under 22 lbs before outfitting with seats and thight straps. Even after that it isn't any more than about 25 lbs.

Re: Choosing a boat?
Another option - if you want a decked boat would be a C1 made by River Elf - the Storm Chaser. They're in northern Alabama and will ship, but don't know how much extra that would cost. They make composite boats - kevlar and some s-glass with extra reinforcements in spots; they make their boats to be...

Re: Decked C2 Modification Question
Thanks again for the suggestion. I've also used plastic food wrap over the plastic/tygon tubing. FYI, the stern of our C2 also has a Mary paddling. She turns the boat partially sideways (prior to rapids) so she can see what is coming up.

Re: Decked C2 Modification Question
Thanks for the suggestions. I was planning on doing a lot of what you've suggested, ie **>cut out the old rims **>remove the outfitting and take the boat to a lake **>we have a 'Whupatar' slalom C2 (15') and so have an educated guess as to where the cockpits need to be based on that **>we'll take a ...

Re: Decked C2 Modification Question
Thanks for the suggestion. I forgot to mention that, for some reason, both cockpits are much larger than a normal, slalom boat cockpit. Thus, a standard size sprayskirt does not fit on either cockpit. I therefore plan to do the extra work to make new cockpit rims. Thanks for the thoughts.

Decked C2 Modification Question
I have a composite, kevlar/glass, decked, older slalom C2 that was given to us (actually a Hammerhead built by Dagger). Problem is, the previous owners had the bow cockpit offset left, stern cockpit offset right, cockpits are very large and positioned for larger person in stern. My wife and I paddle...
