PAC, thanks for backing up the point of my post... chriscanoe, buying a $400 to 500 dollar used OC ANYTHING, installing saddles, worrying about trim (with a child that keeps growing) and later having to re-rig or recycle a boat... when that duet is a screaming deal! I live in OC's and my daughter we...

Look on the used boats... there is a Hydra Duet plastic C-2 in Knoxville TN for $200. I would highly recommend this boat for paddling with a youngster. My now 21 year old daughter started paddling at age 6 in our Duet, on class II+ and by 8 was running solid class III with me. It is very stable, obv...

I did the grand in May of 2008. I paddled an Ocoee and have paddled the Spark quite a bit but not the Fly or other X class boats much. If you paddle, play and roll up in big water, on a par with good play 'yakers, than the fly might be a great choice. But the argument against the fly is that the Gra...

Hi Pat Alan, from western Montana here... it would be hard to add much to what Craig and Bob had to say other than to emphasize, IT IS A HECK OF A GOOD TIME!!!! I am 52, have been paddling since Boy Scout days (40+ years) and did my first local slalom 20 some years ago. Did some more of those in Mon...

Some excellent ideas thrown out there... As much as I would like to reduce the number of classes, Brandon's comments about Craig's list of 13 classes have merit. With that format, I (over 40) could enter 7 classes but Brandon only 4. I think we should keep the citizen classes even if they are not th...

If it was a Caption he could get at least 700. The Caper (worse yet, the older designed Caper) is not very desirable, so 500 to 600 would be my guess... who knows, he might get lucky and get 700. I owned and sold a Caper about 10 years ago with a triple saddle and sold it for 500. The boat's popular...

It would be great to see people from far and wide but the upper mid-west crowd should really come out for this. You may need all the gate time you can get this year because Team Montana is bringing the cow bell to Wausau! For the love of god, more cow bell!!!

For those of you that came to the OC slalom Nat. in Montana back in 2004, we have finally secured the same site for this year's local event. The water level that year was 1,600+ cfs. We are expecting much more water this year. Come on, screw the state of the economy, you deserve that Montana vacatio...

Another little known "first" for Tyler Bradt, happened on the Grand Canyon last May. I was on a trip with him and other Montana friends. The night before Lava, the 6 kayakers on the trip decided to have a duckie derby at Lava. It was a SOLO duckie and each 'yaker would run his own boat through, then...

Kaz or... anyone?

I just finished replacing vinyl gunwales with ash on my Ocoee. Forging ahead without asking first, I used brass screws. Overall the job went well but I broke off at least 6 screws while driving them home. I think I pre-drilled appropriate pilot holes. I knew brass was soft but thought it was a good ...

sbrowning... finally getting back to you. Comparing the Defiant to other ww solo boats... I have paddled almost every model of boat and have owned several. I have 2 Ocoees and paddle them alot. If you combined an Ocoee, an Outrage and a Zephyr, might be a start. The Defiant lacks the Ocoee's edges, ...

I just typed a LONG note regarding the Defiant but lost it somehow. It's past my bedtime so I'll try again tomorrow. You could also give me a ring at 406-546-8960.
