I have pulled several boats in...upto 4". I would say the gunwales would never represent a problem...changing the hull shape with a major-tuck-job may or may not end up being a good thing. Major tucks tend to make the hull more rounded and reduces rocker somewhat.

12' 3.25" long. 27" wide in the water; 24" wide at the gunwales. Composit boat. 46 pounds outfitted (w/o bags or decks). Comes with optional 36" long decks (they need to be trimmed a bit to fit this boat). Ash gunwales. Nice river-running lay-up...plenty of s-glass and polyester cloth in a heat-set ...
