Re: Thoughts on Esquif Blast??

I have not paddled a Blast either. I have been around them at slalom races. They were all paddled OC2; I have never seen one fitted solo. I would say, for someone at 250# looking for a long fast slalom-like boat, you've made two good choices: Encore and Outrage X. I suggest, the next two boats to tr...

The boat is now 300 USD. Jennette will have it at the open boat slalom nationals, in Quebec.

Re: Mohawk OCA / Warsaw Rocket

First, I do not believe Blue Hole used the Uniroyal-molded hulls for the OCA. I always was told, Blue Hole molded their own hulls. While I have never had the two, side by side, I remember the shapes being clearly different. The OCA, for instance, pulls the volume toward the ends more than the Uniroy...

Re: Dagger Caper vs. Encore

Well, first, how much do you weigh? Hard to comment about these three boats without a paddler weight. But, in general, the Caption makes a super dry OC1...but, it is really an OC2 which only does well as a solo if the paddler is real heavy and big. Most will call the Encore fast and plenty dry enoug...

Re: Source for wood t-grips

I agree that a Forstner bit is the right way to go; however, I have drilled a bunch of t-grips using cheap spade bits. Using spade bits often gives you a pin hole on the top of the grip; I actually like the hole...it lets the glue escape, and I feel I am less likely to get an air pocket than I am wi...

Re: WTB: Slalom C1 for larger paddler (95kg)

Oops. I took the CL ad down b/c I will be out of state for two months. In a nut-shell, I have: (1) a Dynamic C-1 which is ~ 1" deeper than the stock Dynamic, and (2) a Dynamic which is jacked up to about 12" deep at the cockpit and 28" wide. They will be back for sale in April. And, if my previous s...

Re: I need a new paddle

Well, there were the totally-old-school Norse paddles made in PA by Rich Brown. They were aluminum shaft (covered in Dynel), glass blade, aluminum tip paddles. On a case-by-case basis, he would build you any size blade and would make the blade out of any fabric you sent him. Long before Kevlar blade...

Glass shaft, S/K blade, aluminum tip, Norse. Tough, very tough.
