Sounds like you're looking for a 16' prospector or the Pocket Canyon
The Starburst is a lotta boat. I'm on my second and wouldn't want to solo it.
The Millbrook AC/DC and ME look pretty sweet and probably the way to go if you're good with glass.

Re: Bear Barrels question...
I often pack all my gear in these type of barrels: http://www.mec.ca/product/5036-414/recreational-barrel-works-plastic-barrel/?q=barrel They are 100% water tight (test them first), displace water like a float bag when strapped down, and resist punctures when being tossed around a portage. On the do...

Astral Rassler & 5-10 Water Tennie feedback
I'm trying to decide between these shoes. I will be ordering online and don't have an opportunity to try before I buy. I will be using for paddling and a decent amount of rough portaging. I prefer footwear with flexible soles which is leaning me towards the Tennie from the small amount I've read. I ...

minicell is available in 2 lb and 3 lb density. the 2 lb is soft and is what is used in most outfitting.

Re: paddle suggestions
If you're looking at a carbon covered blade, consider ordering with dynel rather than aluminum tip. The carbon seems to have an issue adhereing to aluminum. I've had 4 different configurations of carbon covered blades with aluminum tips and all have delaminated either partially or in the case of one...

Re: float bag sizing question - Mad River Outrage
I have 60" bags in my Outrage. Inflated, a 60" bags is about 57" long. A bag any smaller would leave a lot of open space. Get the big ones.

Re: Nova Craft Ocoee
The Novacraft version is noticeably narrower than the original, something easily changed if desired. The price has gone up $100 on a new one since the Royalex announcement. I kinda kick myself for not buying one when they were on sale in the summer...

Re: L'edge Lite or regular L'edge?
If you're picking up another hull, I can't see why you'd even consider the heavy if you have a choice. I'd have no issue paying a premium to loose those 11 lbs and reduce my chances of cracking. Plus, the purple...

Re: do I need a center thwart?
A center thwart in any solo boat would make trimming the boat properly very difficult. You only need enough thwart to keep it from being floopy.

In my Quebec travels, I've seen more Nitro's tripping than anything else.h2sk1 wrote:Can't comment on the other boats. Most people consider the Nitro unloaded a pig, but that might make it to be a good tripper once loaded?

Re: Whithewater tripping solo canoe
If you like the Rival and don't want to go bigger I'd stick with an Outrage as they're most similar. I have an Outrage that I'm keeping around as a back up for tripping with the unknown materials future. I can get a 70 L dry bag under either cage as well as a 30 L barrel stored width wise (I hate pu...
