Re: So I have this Viper...

My advice, to add a bit of structure, is to mix some of the 'goo' so that it is very runny, and use it to lay 2-3 layers of S-glass. The ABS/solvent mixture does a very good job of wetting out the fabric, adds structure, and reduces the weight of the patch. I did a Probe 14 this way, chine to chine,...

Re: Life expectancy of a drysuit

The life expectancy of an NRS drysuit is about two years with moderate use.

Depending on use and care, a Gore-tex Kokotat suit will go a decade (mine has). Anything wears out, but it shosuld take a few hundred river days.

Others tend to fall somewhere between those two.

Not exactly the link I was looking for, but there are plans out there and for a few bucks you can roll your own: http://www.wwslalom.net/pogies/index.htm

Never heard of an exact replica, but the Shred Ready Full Mental Jacket is very similar in shape. Sounds like a really cool project.

McNett has a product for repairing Gore-Tex waders: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHUv1m2FPSc

I have used Tenacious Tape alone as a temporary solution. Using it in conjunction with Aquaseal ought to be a good permanent fix.

Re: Dead Phone Battery? Just Burn Something

I forsee the OC bilge pump engineering dorks mounting this on the rear deck to keep the batteries charged for multiday trips. Steam down the flatwater like a coal-powered riverboat.

Re: Big Waterfall Running with critical thinking

I'm fascinated, so far. I've got some thoughts and questions how an intermediate paddler who has started to run medium drops should develop the ability to control both body position and the canoe's mid-air attitude, and match these to the landing. I'm going to organize my thoughts and try to post th...

Thank you for sharing the sad news.
Literally connecting people to whitewater is a worthy vocation and a great legacy. He will always be one of the greats.

SUP girl from the Clymb

Can everyone see her, or does she only appear for me? Each day I log in to Cboats.net and see her smile, and her sporty yet demure earth-tone swimsuit. She paddles her board under blue skies on the right-hand margin, beckoning me to abandon my drudgery and join her carefree existence. Yet when I cli...

Re: no water in Georgia

No, you have my full sympathy.

I was just poking light fun at those who have no qualms about paddling moist rocks in their back yards. It seems to me that the same folks who openly scoff at the AW recommended minimum flows are the same folks who are warrantying/replacing boats every season or two.

Re: Trying on a Kokatat dry suit in WV/PA/OH

If you don't have access to a brick and mortar store, Kayak Academy will rent you a suit, and credit your rental fee towards the purchase of a new suit. My experience with them is extremely good; they are experts at putting you in the right suit for your dimensions. http://www.kayakacademy.com/pages...

Re: Duct tape and pool noodles?

I've paddled a lot of whitewater with outfitting that's duct-taped in place. It should be fine.

Whatever you're up to, it sounds like a commendably dam fool idea. Can't wait to see photos. :D

Re: Tandemonium / Tandemnation

In the spirit of tandemonium, I launched a 7' aluminum john boat in the Cacapon and started putting dudes in it. At four, we had 1" of freeboard. With five occupants, it went straight to the bottom.

Jay, let's C-2 sometime - even if there's not an official event. You know where I live.
