I'm sure gunna try to be there, in my rusty, trusty Ovation (and keenly interested in trying out the Detonator.) Unfortunately, I will probably be acompanied by a kayaker :-? - nobody's going to throw rocks at him or anything, right? Somebody mentioned a different takeout ...

... in one yet, but people who have paddled it say it has a somewhat rounded hull, and doesn't have the same hrad chines and planing surface as the Detonator, Blast, etc. I was paddling a Prelude last year that had a very flat bottom - in a lot of ways, the Prelude has the same underwater shape ...

... the stock outfitting. The boat now handles like a mini Ocoee. More stable, very snappy into eddys, and fairly fast (for a 9' canoe) A friend has a Detonator and my Prelude is noticably faster. I never saw a Zoom so I can't compare. Dennis

Coming on down

I'll be there - with my Esquif Detonator and (hopefully if it's finished) a Bliss Stick Blitz Special C1. Hopefully my wife will also come along, probably with a Flashback unless she's found something else she likes by then :)

Hi Dave, Sorry I have never paddled the Avalon. But I do own their Detonator, Blast and the Canyon. Esquif makes some really good boats, and I would think the Avalon would meet your needs. You should post your question on the Canadian canoe routes, www.myccr.com ...

... Cascades - unknown, they weren't selling at $300 *Whip-It C-1s - fuggetaboutit. Glad I left my Whiplash at home. Demo'd the Esquif Nitro and Detonator - thought I'd be too heavy for the smaller one (Detonator?) at 220#, but found I liked it more. Nitro (? the longer one) - fast, plenty stable, ...

Has anyone paddled a esquif Nitro?

... by Warren I had a chance to paddle a Nitro on the L. Yough one time (at least I think it was the Nitro; the Nitro is slightly bigger than the Detonator, right?). I found it felt very heavy and slow from rail to rail compared to my Ocoee. HOwever while being a bit slower to start, it carried ...

... only an hour or so, but I feel that it is a much better example of a full-sized solo canoe. It is big, and in return it is fast and stable. The Detonator by Esquif may seem a poor choice for a beginner's boat to some, but if you have a chance to paddle one before buying, check it out. I really ...
