Sorry I didn't include how to make the truncated cone. "Intuitively obvious to the casual observer." is how it would be described by one of my engineering instructors. Let it be a good geometry exercise for everybody!

Alden, Back in the early '80s there weren't many plastic boats, and if you wanted a high-performance boat, fiberglass was your only choice. The plastic boats didn't offer much length advantage anyway - they were 12"+ at the time. Consequently, people who raced, paddled their race boats all the time....
