Brent,

Sorry I didn't include how to make the truncated cone. "Intuitively obvious to the casual observer." is how it would be described by one of my engineering instructors. Let it be a good geometry exercise for everybody! :roll:

Alden, Back in the early '80s there weren't many plastic boats, and if you wanted a high-performance boat, fiberglass was your only choice. The plastic boats didn't offer much length advantage anyway - they were 12"+ at the time. Consequently, people who raced, paddled their race boats all the time....

Years ago I remember Gary Grosclaude to a dynamic entry into the Bottom Moose - a couple of people threw him and his slalom boat off the bridge. It was about 30 feet from the railing to the water, and he unfortunately landed quite flat. The good part was, unlike the spinal compression that kayakers ...
