Re: Any tips for lightening an Option?
ESP cut something like 5 lbs on his by cutting the plastic gunwales off and putting ash gunwales on. I guess he lost about an inch of freeboard but it looks SWEET. This seems like the best option (no pun) to get rid of some weight. I'd like to see pictures of an Option with ash gunwales. The Option...

Not to hijack the thread, but what did Esquif change about the Prelude?

Really? Try paddling with a rafting stick and tell us what you think.Todhunter wrote:I don't find that the paddle makes that much of a difference...it's more of a feel or aesthetic thing.

Re: Dagger Aftershock?
This is second hand information, but I've been told you may as well fill the boat up with water before you run a rapid or try to surf anything and that it makes a better (snow) sled than canoe. However, for someone as light as you, it may run dryer. If the price is right it could be a fun experiment.

Re: Hood River, Oregon
That looks like a super fun run. The real question is could I ski down Mount Hood until I got to my boat, and then paddle the river?! I've wanted to do something like that for a while, but if we are skiing in Maine the rivers usually still are iced in.

Re: Jackson Rockstar / Jackson C1 Outfitting
Good looking boat! A couple questions: Do you find the thigh straps adequate for holding you in the boat, even doing lots of playboating? No getting loose over time? Also, is the "bulkhead" just a semi free-floating piece of foam that wedges between your knees and the thigh hooks of the boat? It is ...

Re: Time for as new boat and I have questions..
I also got to try a few rolls in a L'edge and missed every one. I have no trouble rolling my Encore to the left and the Nitro to either side. I've read that the L'edge is super easy to roll. Not sure what I was doing wrong. (I had a hades of a time wedging myself into all that foam) I've found that...

Re: Paddle blade - plank or spoon?
Just a brief thought: Is it possible to make a composite blade, wooden shaft paddle at home? I mean 'glassing an XPS foam core with apropriate piece of wood stuck in it. That would help me choose the right shape for me as I could make several blades on one shaft and then try each, cut it off, make ...

Re: Successful Canoe Club?
This spring I've had the pleasure of boating a bit with the Penobscot Paddle and Chowder Society. As far as I know, this is the only real paddling club we have in Maine and it includes most of the open boaters in the state. Like Milkman said, it is the people that make a club successful. With PPCS, ...

Re: Waterfall record?
If "getting hurt" is extended to infinity then terminal injuries wouldn't disqualify the run. In this senario Jesse Sharpe is the clear winner for his ill fated run over Niagra (sans helmet) in a Gyramax. Mr. Sharpe certainly did not stay in the boat. I think dying is probably a knock against holdi...

Nice!
You should post up a review of that H2O stick when you get a chance. I think plenty of people are curious, myself included.
