Tandem stern cross stroke

Good day! The only "stern paddler" cross stroke that I've found useful (and very useful at that!) in tandem paddling is the cross draw (usually sculling cross draw.) When the entire boat needs to be moved (or held) to the stern paddlers off side, especially in shallow or rocky waters, the cross draw...

Survey: not impressed

Carey: Well, I completed the silly thing, but was completely unimpressed with the survey design. As an instructional designer, I found that almost all of the questions had logic holes through which one could throw a fair-sized rowboat. I'll give one example only, as nobody would wish to read through...

Re: wood gunnel installation help!

It is useful, if you have the "correct"length screws" to drill a larger through hole in the first gunwale half that the screw passes through. The screw threads should not be engaging the ash until they are into the second gunwale half. If you're not sure of the size of this through hole, just measur...

Ordering?

I've tried ordering from your site, but keep getting no response from the server (and/or a "Page not found" error.)

How to order?

Thanks!

Dimension yes, Pocket Canyon, probably no

I've got both boats. The Pocket is a good high volume solo, but for big folks, as a tandem, it will give you some great views of the bottom of the stream (from REALLY close up!). The Dimension, although horribly heavy, is a workhorse. with the tons of rocker, flared and upswept bow and stern, it wil...

Gunwale Screws...

any snowbirds around.... does he need to worry about backing out the gunwale screws??? I've seen many royalex boats (in the colder parts of the world, like Iowa or Maine) crack into lots of small shards when the wooden gunwale screws are not loosened for (unheated) winter storage. Ig the ME has woo...

Well, not just gloves...

(Currently -5 degrees (F) in Iowa, and we're not paddling today.) But, we do paddle most of the year over here when we can break through the ice, and I've found that a pair of surplus (Swiss) military glove covers (actually look like huge o.d. mittens) over a pair of wool glove liners will work down...

Long Boats

Shallower draft. Out here in the flatland, that counts for a lot. We do have a (not unkind, honestly!) term for short boats out here in the summer: AGROUND. Additionally, some of us do quite a bit of channel maintenance (read that to mean cutting out honking big trees with chainsaws run, as often as...

Don't worry about the purses: watch out for the skirts and the training paddles!

Re: bottom sitters

Louie:

Surely you may, but be aware that the term was used by a professional wordsmith under rigidly-controlled conditions. Use in other circumstances may cause death or injury.

Iowa Boats (IOWA?)

Carol and all: I have to confess to two Dagger Dimensions myself, a normal one for paddling tandem and solo and a "cut down" version (13" deep -- looks a lot like a fat pirogue) for solo Iowa flatwater creek paddling. Oh, yes, also a 15' cedar stripper (wife's boat) Prospector 15 (also wife's boat) ...

Iowa Paddling (WAY off topic!)

EZ: Give a call if you head this way. Whitewater is almost nonexistent in Iowa, save for a few park and play spots, but we have some small rivers and creeks that will make boaters work a bit to get through "clean." The Volga, Yellow, Upper Turkey and Little Turkey Rivers are much better paddling tha...
