Re: Icon, Idol, or Meridian dry suit?
I own an Icon. It's comfortable, seems durable, and I can operate the back zipper without assistance, even though I have bad shoulders. It's easier with help, but doable solo. I considered the Idol, but decided not to for a couple reasons. 1. I'm a late adopter with new technology - prefer to let th...

Re: Shoulder injury question.
I have a torn anterior labrum in my right shoulder - did it 15 years ago while trying to learn to hand roll a K1. That's originally why I ended up paddling on the right side when C boating. Having my right hand on the t-grip was a recipe for lingering pain if I did more than maybe 20 hard strokes th...

Re: What rack for a camper shell?
I've never drilled through gel coat before. I'm guessing put masking tape on it and drill slowly? Start with a small bit and work up? It's been a really long time, but from what I remember, the mounting holes for the track screws weren't particularly big. I used a center punch to keep the bit from ...

Re: What rack for a camper shell?
No personal experience with the mounts that go between cap and bed rail, but I do have direct experience with tracks and artificial raingutters on glass caps. I had artificial raingutters with old school Thule towers on an ARE mid rise cap with aluminum rails on top of a Frontier, and Yakima tracks ...

Re: Changing Sides
Switching for tandem is not a huge deal if you're in the stern, since you're only doing onside strokes (unless of course you have to throw a big cross draw to fix a bad line . For me, it's mainly the cross forward that is the issue when I try to paddle lefty.

Re: Sources for valves for Voyageur/Harmony float bags?
Yep, looking at my spares, the ID would match up just fine with the OD of the blue bags. Just as a note, glue (or at least AquaSeal) is counter productive if you're putting a valve inside a larger tube. The glue acts as a lubricant, and the squeezing of the tube invariably pushes the valve out like ...

Re: Sources for valves for Voyageur/Harmony float bags?
Those NRS valves are for a larger diameter feed tube, I think. I've got a bunch of NRS bags, so I have some of those replacement NRS valves. I also have one set of the blue vinyl Harmony kayak bags with the red feed tubes. The NRS valves are too big to fit into the ends of those red feed tubes.

Re: AC/DC review
Sounds like you've got the same issue I have with my flat/moving water solo. Installing a permanent portage yoke would make the boat dangerous at best (entrapment risk) and unusable at worst due to where the yoke would sit in relation to the saddle. In my case, the front of the saddle is close enoug...

Re: Astral Footwear?
Can't help you on the top durability, since my left knee won't tolerate C1, and I use the balls of my feet against the pegs in OC. I do lay my feet flat when kneeling in my flatwater OC, but I don't spend that much time on flatwater...

Re: Astral Footwear?
I poked fun at the way the Brewers look when they first came out, but I actually own a pair now. They are durable, fit securely, have decent grip, dry quickly and so far do not seem prone to perma-stink. They're also insanely easy to put on over drysuit booties - if you loosen the laces, the ...

Impressive run after a broken paddle. I don't know if there's a non-FB version of this out there or not..

Re: Waterproof (not 'resistant') Velcro?
I've had pretty good success with using weldwood contact cement along with the sticky backed velcro. :D That's what I tried first time around. Stuck beautifully for a few trips, then started peeling off, especially the bits that were low enough in the bilge to wind up submerged any time I ran a bad...

Waterproof (not 'resistant') Velcro?
Anyone have any idea what kind of velcro works for customizable outfitting? I can't find any that doesn't already have some sort of glue on the back of it, and that stuff inevitably falls off after being submerged a few times.

Re: Air bag repair
I suppose you could try Stan's sealant. It's a latex milk that mountain bikers use to seal tubeless tires. Stays liquid inside the tire but cures when it seeps through a puncture (or through the pores on a non-tubeless tire being run as a tubeless). No idea if it would be compatible with airbag mate...
