Re: C1 & C2 Boating
Jim, it is great to get that glass Atom in use again. I test paddled it also when I purchased my Hornet from the same seller last fall. Mike W, I have a used Storm Chaser for sale should you be interested and yes it does surf well. It is a really cool boat but a little slow and soft-chined for my ap...

Re: Quality breakdown paddle
I have a 3-piece Werner bandit for my breakdown. Works well.
Likely no one would stock the 3-piece version of this paddle, but it is a regular item and any dealer can order one. It is slightly heavier than the single shaft but not a lot.

Re: Hornet and Magnet comparisons
I think the Magnet would hold weight equal to or better than a Gyramax. It is a pretty big boat for glass.

Re: Hornet and Magnet comparisons
Bob P, that is a kind offer and I would like to test paddle it sometime. I really like testing out different hulls. I don't see myself getting down to NOC anytime soon unfortunately - I am constrained on travel for paddling with middle and high school age kids each in sports, which is why I so often...

Re: Hornet and Magnet comparisons
Adam, just loan me your Amoeba for a while and I'd be glad to do a comparison. :-) I paddled the Hornet again last night - the speed is a bit intoxicating. I easily made a power move onto a wave using only cross forward strokes, where normally I have to switch hands to let me power onto that wave us...

Hornet and Magnet comparisons
So, I purchased a Hornet (made by Millbrook - in near new condition) and a Magnet (made by Valley Mill Boats - well used but a lot of life left) this past weekend, funnily enough each from around Chapel Hill NC. I'd been looking at each hull for a while. First, I like faster boats - I have years pad...

Love it - thanks for sharing.
That is definitely more advanced than we have worked up to with our troop so far.

Re: So, will one of these Millbrook boats work for my trip?
Look for a used Mad River Monarch - you are welcome to try mine out. If I (sadly) could only have one boat that would be it. It is very similar to the Kruger Sea Wind - it is the Gen 2 hull, and more like the Sea Wind hull than the Gen 1 Sawyer Loon. Fast, forgiving, carrries a big load, integrated ...

Got a Shacho in Roanoke VA you are welcome to try out.
I’ve also got a River Elf Storm Chaser which is even lighter and pretty comfy.

Re: River Elf Storm Chaser M - used - for sale
Still for sale.
Would consider trade for a new Jackson Karma RG (which is worth less than the Storm Chaser but is a boat I’d like for tripping/ocean use).
Once you use a glass boat like this it is hard to carry a plastic boat far.

River Elf Storm Chaser M - used - for sale
I bought this boat a little less than 3 years ago and have paddled it about 6 times. I was looking for a "modern" C1 to replace my trusty Gyramax and wanted to try this one out. It is a cool boat and very nicely built, but it was just not quite what I was looking for. [I've ended up in a Nirvana L c...

C-boat for 120 lb 11 year old to learn - which to pick
My pretty big 11 year old son is ready to learn more of running his own boat (after years paddling a kiddie Thrillseeker following my daughter and me in our Mad River Howler, as well as a bit of time in a surfski in the ocean). I've got several C1s from which to pick for him and am trying to figure ...

Re: Outfitting my new Nirvana L
I’m continuing to play around with the boat. I’m really liking the hull - good edges for turning, great stability, predictable and speed for a short boat. I tried yesterday with the saddle 4” inside the inner cockpit rim - this appeared to be almost right on the balance point, as leaning forward or ...
