Though I'm aware the Jackson is not the first choice for C1, I'll add my 2 cents. I own a Taureau as well and wanted my creeker to feel the same. So I built a bulkhead and installed foot pegs to hold me in. I trimmed the foot peg to fit and built the bulkhead to take straps if needed. Set up works g...

I picked up a pair of Level 6 Creek Boot's for my C1's last year. They work really well, offering a tight heal, flexibility and a sturdy enough sole to survive that class 5 hike. I used to wear the NRS work boots in my OC1 but now I just use these for those boats as well. I would highly recommend th...

I have a friend who is and amazing c1 boater. He told me some great advice about C1 and It's stuck since day one. He said try to always use positive(forward) strokes for correction. So onside or cross stokes to control you movements. The pry is very inefficient especially on shorter playboats. Use b...

Calling out Alberta OC1 & C1 boaters
Putting the call out to all Alberta and surrounding area's folks to come paddle. My hope is to get a crew of OC1/C1 boaters that are willing to try some harder stuff. Figure we could meet at the Redeer river(class 3) and get a feel of the group and somewhere to call base camp. From their hit Humming...

Well then, its good to hear from you again Paul! I'm spending my time right now getting a plan ready for the summer. Have plans to run a lot more off the beaten path rivers and creeks. Have a list of small creeks with waterfalls and might have a few first accents lined up I want to try. I also reall...

Rocky Boater, I'm 185 and recently converted a 2007 4Fun. Bernie's right, it would be too big for you. I already have a full play boat and just want something with more volume. Something that can play well and still run 3-4 water if needed. Big boat means big air! :) I know a few kayakers that are ...

A few things that are good help when practising the hip flick are to just hang on the side of the pool and try to flick up with as little help from the edge as possible. From their move to flutter boards. Start with a stack and work your way down to just one. It seems a little awkward at first but r...

One thing I found that took my roll from ok to bomber was ditch the PFD(in the pool of course). The pfd is a crutch for learning the proper roll. Taking it off will force you to have proper technique. You don't float so it forces you to really think about your set up and follow through. That really ...

I second the hip flick. Because its weak, it looks like you're really forcing the boat to come that extra little bit at the end with the paddle. There should be very little pressure on the paddle in the last part of the roll. In turbulent water that much pressure will put you back down a lot of the ...
