Re: Adding thigh straps to an Ion, recommendations?

Agree, I'm going to give that a try this weekend. Thanks, Kimmie!

Re: Adding thigh straps to an Ion, recommendations?

Thanks Creeker, that's awesome, I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer. Yeah, I'm very conscious of having my feet stuck under the pegs. It made it hard to exit the boat, for one thing, which was a little scary. At first I was looking to maybe take out the pegs and use straps, but that doesn't se...

Re: ALF/Pre-ALF Workshops

I'm so glad to hear all of the positive feedback about ALF folks! I've been paddling for six years now and have never met nicer people than fellow paddlers. I'm glad to hear such great things about the ALF atmosphere, and look forward to attending when I can. Sorry for the ****-storm that my comment...

Re: Adding thigh straps to an Ion, recommendations?

Thanks, everyone! Does anyone have a picture of a plate attachment to make the foot peg flush with the bottom of the boat, or a description of how to do it and what material you use? That may be the way to go for me. In the pool last weekend, my feet kept getting stuck under the peg, and if I was tw...

Adding thigh straps to an Ion, recommendations?

Looking to stay tighter in the boat for rolling. Problem is, I'm not a fan of footpegs--I'm more comfy sitting c-1 style with my feet flat on the floor of the hull. The pegs are uncomfortable, and my big ol' feet get hung up on them when I exit. I'd like to take the pegs out of the boat altogether. ...

Re: 2013 Option thoughts

Cool, thanks, I'm psyched to try that. I'm enjoying my Ion, but sometimes bigger ferries scare the beejebus out of me.

Hi Wendy! Could you explain a bit more about using upstream edges? Thanks!

Re: ALF/Pre-ALF Workshops

"That other $#it is a real turn off." MAJOR turn-off. I was hoping to get down for part of ALF this year, but I don't think I'm going to bother. I'm a new-ish OC paddler and a complete outsider to the world of GDI, but I tuned in a while back when I took an interest in attending ALF. The nastiness o...

I have the Ronin pro and really like it. It has a lot of flotation, but feels very low profile.

Re: Big Dog Force OC1 review

Thanks for the great review!

I wonder how it would compare to the Ion? I ask mainly because of length, I guess--not sure if the hull shapes are compatible.

Re: kiddie boats

Speaking as someone who runs an outing club for teens, I would definitely appreciate more OC-1 options for smaller kids. Some or our kids really like kayaks, and that's fine--we can pick up used kayaks pretty cheaply and easily. However, I have a lot of kids who would like to progress beyond duckies...

Re: 2013 Outback?

In my car, the seat bottoms fold up so that they rest against the back of the front seats, then the seat backs fold all the way down, flat. There should be a grab-loop on the front of the bottom seat cushion. (When I test-drove it, the dealer didn't know the seats could do that, so I had to show him...

Re: 2013 Outback?

Never owned an Outback, but I did a bunch of research last year looking for a wagon that would make a good boating vehicle. I decided on a Jetta Sportwagen and am very happy with it. It has factory rails that are easily compatible with the "feet" for both Yakima and Thule crossbars. I ruled out the ...

Re: Oc-1 or -2 for small-ish teenagers?

Thanks, everyone, for all of the excellent input.! This all really helps me keep an eye out for boats that will get the kids out having fun instead of getting frustrated trying to muscle around a boat that's too unwieldy for them. Bob and Kimmie, I totally agree about the Ion; I have one personally ...

Re: paddlers with glasses?

Yep, Cat Crap and Croakies.

Also, keeping the glasses away from my face and keeping air flowing around them helps a lot. I don't use close-fitting "sport" shades, just small-lens regular frames. In eddys, I slip the glasses way down on my nose and they clear pretty quick.
