Re: Tellico first timer

Since no one else has answered, I will. The Upper Tellico is mainly class III at normal water levels with the exception of Jared's Knee which is a very solid 4 however as the water gets higher (not sure where this begins, but last year's race was a somewhat beefier level) the whole upper part gets h...

Re: securing bulkhead to thwarts

I second the plastic dowel suggestion. Use a slightly smaller hollow piece of metal tubing such as a tent pole to cut a hole and remove the foam where the dowel will go, coat the dowel with contact cement and slide it in flush with the top of the saddle. Then drill out a hole smaller than the screw ...

Re: Update on Mohawk Canoes

Yes, thanks for the update and for all the work you are doing. No matter what we are paddling we will probably need quality air bags and footbraces, and having bags that fit the new hulls is a plus. The single valve construction is also nice as it eliminates one more place bags can leak. Keep up the...

Has anyone built a removable electric pump setup?

I would like to create a self-contained pump/battery/switch and drain hose with a 90-degree bend that fits over the gunnel and can be transferred from one OC to another. This way I could avoid drilling holes through hulls and have one system to use in multiple boats. If anyone has tried this, please...

Re: Open boat for a bigger paddler

A lot of good suggestions but skip the HD1 or the dreaded Old Town HDPro. Something made in the last few decades that was actually a decent design would give him a better experience. If he tries an Octane he will never go back.

I recommend the Mohawk bags. They fit well, are light, cost less than half the expensive ones, and Richard provides excellent customer service.

Re: Acquired a Whitesell Descender looking for repair advice

You can fill soft spots and delaminated voids in the Royalex with Gorilla glue. This works great because you do not have to try to dry out the layers since G-Glue is water activated, and there is almost always moisture in there you cannot get to. If not, just use a spray bottle to dampen the inside ...

Re: Help….pump needs Viagra!

Thank you all for your replies and advice. I will use these to troubleshoot the situation. I can rule out reversed polarity and battery age, so it must be a wiring and/or hose issues.

Happy Paddling!

Help….pump needs Viagra!

No, the one in my L'Edge. I have a single Tsunami 1200 pump and a 5 amp lead acid battery installed by the previous owner. The outlet hose is probably 18 inches long and goes to an inline fitting through the hull that is a little forward of where it needs to be. It took a full five minutes to clear ...

People switching from Lite to original L'Edge

I know of at least one, maybe two people who are doing this, for various reasons. Why would anyone choose a boat that weights 60+ pounds over one 10 pounds lighter? I have heard: A. The LL is not quite as stable and may not roll quite as easily. This is the impression of one paddler, so it may just ...

Re: Black fly option vs esquif ledge

The L'Edge rolls easier than the option and the new (light) one is about 1.5 inches longer (9 feet 3.5 inches) It is drier and more stable too due to its greater width. Definitely go with the original heavy L'Edge ... gives you more momentum to punch through that big water :O)
