send my ashes down my favorite rapid

That's what I told my wife. She said "I guess that's one solution." I pointed out that it was technically a slurry.

KOT cats

After the Russians came to NOC in 1990 those were going to be the Next Big Thing. Ehh, not so much.

Someday I'm going to put a pedestal and straps on a cheap SOT, just to see how it'll work. Might be the Next Big Thing. Maybe not.

Boatertalk

Surprised nobody has mentioned Boatertalk Gear Swap. Very active site I've used a lot. http://boatertalk.com/gear/gear.php The Dagger Pegasus is reputed to be a better boat for WW than the Torrent, but Pegasi are pretty scarce. Torrents are probably better for the casual paddler. Anybody ever seen a...

While I totally support giving kids

something they can't break, those old Norses are heavy. YMMV.

The Kayak Roll

Kent Ford's video can give you some great teaching tips. My suggestions: 1. Go abck to basics for a little while (like 5-10 minutes) and do some KYFHD (Keep your fine head down) drills. 2. Stress that the point of the roll is not to bring your head through an arc, but to move the boat with your knee...

And I got the straight-blade Lightning

Tom packs stuff up like it's going around the world, so don't worry a bit about buying stuff from him if you're a mere 4,000 miles away, like I am.

Thanks for the great service, Tom. If I can ever put the time and $$ together for an Alaska trip, I'll get back to you.

One other trick. Stick your arm straight out forwards, palm up. Use the other hand to pull your fingers down and back toward your elbow. Stop pulling when it hurts.

Got a new hammer

and a bunch of things are starting to look like nails.

Followup question: do the Legos retain their color when melted to turn black?

Relax your pushing hand

In kayak instruction, kayakers are taught to have one hand locked on the paddle, usually their right hand, and have one hand less tightly gripped, which allows you to feather the paddle in one hand while maintaining a solid grip at all time. Not "are." "used to be." You can't get good power if your...

Melting?

When you say "melt," you're not talking about heating anything, right? Just adding acetone to the ABS/Legos?
