Re: Choosing a boat?
... would certainly be worth considering are the Mohawk Viper 11 and Viper 12, Mohawk Probe 11, Probe 12 and Probe 13, Mad River Outrage, and Esquif Nitro. But if you anticipate doing a lot of paddling in low water, abrasive conditions a Royalex boat might not be your best choice anyway as Royalex ...

Re: pony saddle
Saddle looks good Harry. I turned my Nitro into a tandem putting a pony saddle in front of the existing saddle and one for me behind. We just ran our first II/III river last weekend; is was a blast. I used cam straps to hold down the saddle, ...

Re: impulsive purchase: whitesell pirahna & paddling with k
Thanks EZ; I refer to my tandem Nitro as a "mini-Blast".
The water up here is almost warm enough to take the boys on, can't wait for the long weekend!!

Re: impulsive purchase: whitesell pirahna & paddling with k
... my 5 year old. Its big enough to handle the extra weight, but small enough that I can horse it around without a lot of input from him. As with the nitro, it doesn't seem that sensitive to trim. It's also stable enough that I can (usually) heave him back in the boat without someone else holding ...

Re: impulsive purchase: whitesell pirahna & paddling with k
keez --- The Nitro may be of those boats where the shape of the hull *in the water* does not change much depending on load and trim. It's a symmetrical hull that does not taper markedly toward its ends. There are many other boats ...

Re: impulsive purchase: whitesell pirahna & paddling with k
I turned my Nitro into a tandem and my 9 and 4 year old sons love it. I put the 2 saddles fore and aft of the original solo saddle. I thought the balance point would be a concern (me at 200 lbs and them 50-70 lbs), but was pleasantly ...

... as well. Fast soft chines, good for big guys. A shaman may work good as well. I'm 235 and these were all on my plate before choosing a Nitro, then switching to Ledge. I recently picked up a used zephyr as my fast boat and been digging it so far.

Re: Caption vs Vertige-X
... I said? Esquif themselves have described the somewhat conservative nature of the Vertige-X design compared to their other tandems such as the Nitro, Blast. The Caption has a bit of a rail-y quality, a bit like the Ocoee. That could be positive for some. I looked hard at the Caption back in ...

Used Nitro for trade or sale
Want to trade my Nitro for a Ledge, Option or Detonator. Nitro has one season on it with normal wear. I live in Northwest Montana in the Flathead Valley. Will sell for $1000.00 and will throw in never used pump kit w/battery, hoses, etc.

Re: Whithewater tripping solo canoe
In my Quebec travels, I've seen more Nitro's tripping than anything else.h2sk1 wrote:Can't comment on the other boats. Most people consider the Nitro unloaded a pig, but that might make it to be a good tripper once loaded?

Re: Whithewater tripping solo canoe
... these advices again. Now does anyone have comments on the Prodigy? Looks like it would be a great solo tripping boat. Other choices are Viper 11, Nitro, Probe 11 and Spark. I find the Nitro too slow. I have a Probe 12 II and find it too large; I suppose that it would be same for the Probe 11. ...
