Re: Tippecanoe

As far as decked slalom-boats being 'swede-form'...the other reason is that (all things being equal...or equal-ish) swede-form hulls are simply faster. Fish-form boats generally track better, they are easier to paddle, but they won't accelerate with a swede-form of equal length/width/proper design. ...

Re: Trinity River Labor Day Fest....anyone out west coming?

Most of the people there run either Pigeon Point (III) or Burnt Ranch Gorge (IV-V). I've run the Trinity everywhere from 400 cfs up to 2500 cfs...its always runnable.

Re: What is the most difficult CBoat you've ever paddled?

At six-five and 235...the Atom was a massive handful for me. Lots and lots of fun at times, but I'll probably never crawl into one again. Class II/III stuff was a lot of fun in it, but it made real class III feel like IV...and class IV feel like 'HOLY $$$%%$$$%%$OH MY %%$$$%***%%GOD YOU&&$&$**#(#(*....

Pretty water. Who's the guy in the blue boat? I like his style.

Re: Trinity River Labor Day Fest....anyone out west coming?

Cool!

I'm bringing my protege and his dad, so we should have a fair number of open boaters. We're staying at the bigfoot RV campground thingy...any idea what time people plan to be at the put-in? I mean, we don't wanna have to be over associated with those dark-siders.

Re: Searching for the perfect tandem/solo, river/lake hybrid

Another boat to consider: We-No-Nah Rouge. By far faster than any other boat listed, still handles nicely in whitewater. Very dry due to DEEP ends, agile enough (for a 16 footer). Will handle quite a lot of gear (especially solo) Probably won't turn as fast as an AC/DC, but its Royalex so it will ta...

Trinity River Labor Day Fest....anyone out west coming?

Hey all,

Just a shout-out to see who else is going to be showing up at the Trinity on Labor Day weekend to celebrate the end of warm-weather paddling for the season.

Another excerpt, 'Good Times and Creative Truths'

Hey all, As mentioned in previous posts, I just finished the rough draft of my (hopefully) humorous novel about spending 12 years as a whitewater canoe guide. Not all the stories are about whitewater, as this excerpt will show. Some of it was just ...stuff... In any case, I hope anyone who reads thi...

Re: too darned cheap

I'd tear off the gunnels and replace them with a cheaper wood lol. Check your local lumber yards for doug fir, oak, or cherry in 16 foot boards and then rip them to size with a table saw...if you has a table saw. Good luck either way.

Re: Caption outfitting -- measurements

For adjustable outfitting.... I'd call We-no-nah and talk to them about the system they have put in the Recon. The Recon is solo, but their adjustable system is the best I've ever seen. Its easy to move EVERYTHING around in that boat, and it would not be that hard to simply install two of their adju...

Re: Do I have a first descent?

I know some open boaters were running big stuff in the 80's/90's, and I have no misconceptions about my special skills (or lack thereof) being necessary for running the Box. I have some photos somewhere of a guy running the CAL Salmon in a Blue Hole OCA in the early 80's, and that is far tougher tha...

Do I have a first descent?

OK, This will seem like an appeal to my Vanity, but actually it isn't. As some have read before, I am working on a non-fiction book about my 12 years as a whitewater canoe guide/instructor, and I've just finished the rough draft. The book is primarily humorous, (or its supposed to be) and one of the...
