Re: Follow up - OC2 saddle mods for a kid, with photos
... oke? Yes - stern position for me. It rides a little bit bow light, but not enough to mess up the handling. We do plenty of front surfing and dynamic eddy turns, and I don't really notice the trim. Here's a pic to show how it rides, though that isn't me in the stern. I had both kids along ...

Follow up - OC2 saddle mods for a kid, with photos
... bits of foam, but it works great. My son says it's very comfortable and secure - no more feeling like he's going to fall out of the boat during dynamic eddy turns. We've done plenty of those just to make sure :D. The setup also worked for a friend of his who is probably a head taller. The bulkhead-style ...

Re: Seat height and rolling --
... easier to roll with a lower saddle apparently came from looking at the very last stage of the roll, the end, which is the only time during the dynamic rolling process where a lower saddle actually lowers your center of gravity and nay be helpful to "finish it". But it may actually be less important ...

Re: Boat of the Week - Mohawk Maxim
I paddle a Maxim for 3 years before finally killing it. The lack of primary stability made for a dynamic ride. The worst part is the stern dent you get in the boat, when I bought mine it had one already, though enough duck tape takes care of that. Finally killed it on the ...

Re: off-side side-surf?
... just buys time and postpones that outcome. So, to get a different outcome, you have to do something other than bracing & waiting, something more dynamic, like going offside to the downstream side and paddling. If you're going to sink or flip anyway, you might as well go down trying trying to ...

Re: Which slalom boat??
... Plus as it has some of the most volume of slalom boats. Also take a look at a Fanatic 2 (a Fanatic hull with volume added to bow). Davey Hearn's Dynamic or a Super Dynamic may be worthwhile and also add that Zealot to the list of boats to try. The Loco is one of the largest newer slalom c-1's. ...

Re: Detonator compared to Viper 11?
... on ferries and allows crisper carved turns. If you are really adept, weighting the offside knee (for an onside turn) allows one to execute a very dynamic eddy turn. But initially paddlers unfamiliar with a sharper chine may find themselves "tripping over" the chine when it hangs on a rock, or ...

Re: Detonator compared to Viper 11?
... into an eddy, not paddle it into an eddy, much like you see many paddlers do with Spanish Fly 's. On the one hand, the L'Edge begs for an active, dynamic paddling style, but gives you a hard time doing so on the other hand. It all depends on your ambition as a paddler. If you enjoy paddling slalom ...

Re: Curved blade versus flat blade
... curved blade does indeed put the water in motion, so the catch could be better with the flat blade. But unless anyone does actually do some fluid dynamic research of paddle blades at one point (I haven't heard of any.. its all heuristics) we'll keep guessing, I guess .. ;D I like flat edge blades ...

Re: Boat of the Week - Dagger Atom
So what's the next most popular purpose built C1? I know what is mine and I actually paddle it more often than the Atom but just not on as many river trips. It is faster, can do more dynamic moves, is lighter but is a bit harder to roll when you tire.

Boat of the Week - Dagger Atom
... like the Slasher. At 160 lbs I wasn't generally heavy enough to stern squirt it but had fun trying. Front surfed OK, side surfing could be a bit dynamic with the flat top deck. When I purchased an Acrobat then a Fanatic II I found I didn't paddle the Atom much. Too heavy, too slow, and the volume ...

Re: Prijon Pure XL
... Pure next time, have it be stable enough, and yet also have more of the hull features engaged in the water at my weight (making the paddling more dynamic and fun)? Does anyone have any experience with the stability of the normal sized Pure as a conversion? It is still 80 gallons! Alden
