Rick,

Genesis for sale for $750 on MEC in Lethbridge, along with an interesting Kevlar Mad River Cyclone (never heard of it).

Re: Reuse, recycle. . .

You had me at cheap. I think the Genesis would be worth a go! In fact, if search that on here, I think there are some posts about this already that mention the Genesis as a tandem.

Re: Reuse, recycle. . .

... seem to be many tandem playboats around. And, while I have the itch to own my own Octane 92, I don't yet have the scratch. A random ad for a cheap Genesis f/s recently triggered this inquiry. Wondered how it would work as a student tandem boat on Class II. Rick

Reuse, recycle. . .

... bad boat! And there's lots of tandemized MEs around. So -- wondering what other older solo hulls have been converted to tandem. Anyone converted a Genesis? Rival? Ovation? Viper? Outrage? Rampage? Prophet?. . . Reviews? Thanks in anticipation! Rick

Re: OC-1 with seat

The Vertige, no x, might also be an option. It's easy to install a regular canoe seat hanging from the gunwales, and knee cups, straps, etc…That would work well in CII.

Of course there are other possible boats:
caper
genesis
H2 pro
piranha
probe 14
xl series such as XL 14 or 15

Re: Open boat for a bigger paddler

Bell Prodigy X, Esquif Vertige X, Mad River Outrage X, Dagger Caper, Dagger/Mad River Caption, Dagger Genesis, Mad River ME, Mohawk XL 13, Mohawk XL 14 are all traditional appearing canoes that have been considered good for a larger paddler. The Dagger Rival I would say is ...

Re: Open boat for a bigger paddler

... Outrage X or Blast outfitted solo, a Veritge, or Viper 12 for more performance, or even an Outrage or Rival maybe. And those older boats like a Genesis work good too - I'd include H2Pro on the list, depending on what oldies you're able to come across. He could also give the L'Edge a try. He's ...

Re: Esquif Zephyr for Big Guy?

Regarding the Genesis - I'm not crazy about it. It's pretty slow for one thing, Don't expect an 11' hull to be faster than a 13' hull. The most important factor in hull speed is hull length. I own a Genesis and two different 11' ...

... about - maybe the best course of action is to see if the seller will let me jump in the boat and try it out for a few minutes. Regarding the Genesis - I'm not crazy about it. It's pretty slow for one thing, and I'd like something that will carve more aggressively. I was hoping the Zephyr ...

Esquif Zephyr for Big Guy?

... much definitive, so I wanted to turn to the experts. I'm a fat paddler with moderate skills but I'm looking to get better. I have a beat up Dagger Genesis at the moment, but I've been keeping an eye out for something more modern like an Esquif Nitro. A Zephyr just popped up locally, though, and ...

Re: Can Millbrook Rival handle 250#'s?

... canoe will tend to get sluggish and less responsive. I'm about 160 and carry more than 50 pounds of gear when tripping. I paddle a 13' Dagger Genesis and the boat doesn't feel that much different with or without the gear. My guess is you could do in it a Rival, but would probably prefer something ...
